Speedman
Over the last 12 months I've managed to acquire 3 of the old LS 1/144 F-20 kits. They're great little kits that need a few corrections but no major surgery I'll be finishing 82-0062 in it's grey scheme and N3986B in both grey and anthracite schemes.
trickyrich
And a very warm welcome to our 1/144th specialist. I didn't realise that there was a 1/144th version of this aircraft let alone the normal F-5's. It is a nice looking model and you must have covered all the colour scheme available for this aircraft. It's always so great to see your builds in this small scale, I think a lot of people forget this scale when planning a build and you've shown there are some great models out there. So good luck and look forward to seeing the end products.
Dazzio
It is a nice looking model and you must have covered all the colour scheme available for this aircraft. Fraid not trickyrich, there is two more that I'm aware off. There's a red/white version and a deep blue (sorta like the Blue Angels colours) too. I also believe there was a cameo version but I'll have to check up on that, could've imagined it. Looking forward to watching this, I got the Airfix version somewhere. So will be stealing ideas Dunno what else to do tho... :/ Kind Regards, Dazz Edit: Scrap the Blue one, think that might be my monitor playing tricks on me... :/ Edited November 4, 2015 by Dazzio
trickyrich
arr that's right I forgot about the original demo/release colour scheme!
Dazzio
arr that's right I forgot about the original demo/release colour scheme! Aye, imo the best coloured one. Kind Regards, Dazz
Tom Cooper
Very nice. BTW, should you desire 'at least a lil bit of colour' on any of your F-20s: one was actually marked with full Egyptian national insignia (Egyptians opted for F-16s though, like so many others). Speedman
BTW, should you desire 'at least a lil bit of colour' on any of your F-20s: one was actually marked with full Egyptian national insignia (Egyptians opted for F-16s though, like so many others). Well, now I've acquired a forth kit, this may be on the cards. At the moment I've not decided exactly what I'm going to do with it, so I'm calling it a "guest" and unless I opt for actual F-20 markings I'll be building it as a whif and not entering it in the gallery. I'm half tempted to build it as an updated MiG-28 I've weighted the noses and started painting the cockpits. I removed the fins as they were positioned too far forward. Tom Cooper
Hehe... one thing I'm trying to recall but I'm too lazy to search for right now: weren't there 'only' three prototypes (of which two crashed, AFAIK)? ...and how similar we two are thinking: back in the late 1980s I did a 1:72 Tigershark as 'MiG-28'. trickyrich
arrr a full production line going, how great is that to see! They would make great Wiff subjects...but I didn't say that! You mention the MiG-28...you have to build it!
Speedman
Now Christmas is out of the way I can concentrate on getting these finished I'm now going to do the forth Tigershark in Egyptian markings, as suggested by Tom, with decals from my Mark 1 AERO L-29 kit's sheet. So... Where am I with this one...? Doing pretty well over the last couple of days Fuselages together and intake splitter plates on. Fins on and moved 2mm to the rear. Pylons fitted and holes filled. Lots of bits cleaned up and ready for fitting. The ordnance. I sanded off the horrible moulded in lumps that represented the 20mm cannons and replaced them with wire after drilling out the ports. Control columns added. I scratch-built some seats. And fitted them. I have installed a spacer behind them to represent the canopy mechanism.
trickyrich
Wow that is a cool production line you have going there, looks great. It's still hard to believe they're 1/144th!
Speedman
Some more production line progress Canopies on and masked ready for priming. I forgot to get a photo of them in primer so this is the nearest I can get, the undersides are painted but the tops are still in primer. Undersides done. I've not pre-shaded, due to them being in pristine condition in every photo I've ever seen of them. Probably helps when your trying to sell the things. And here's the black (Ok, dark grey) sheep of the family.
trickyrich
they are looking great with paint on!
Speedman
And now with decals! The size of the Egyptian markings from my L-29 are just about right. I had to do the tail code for this one using individual decals, took an age to get lined up and spaced.
trickyrich
I can imagine it would have taken ages when you realize how small it would be.......you're a very patient man!!!!
gingerbob
Cool! I built one of these way back when (I think the F-20 was still flying!) and also a 1/72 Hasegawa. I was very delinquent in getting the 1/48 Monogram, so that's still waiting... I love the "anthracite grey" scheme. bob
exdraken
4 of them! that is more than ever existed, no? great little fleet here! one small detail I noticed: the Egyptian and US flag looks a bit "forced" there, half on the rudder, half not... maybe you could move them a bit forward? (I know, there is a large bump there....) great models, anyways! cheers!
Speedman
one small detail I noticed: the Egyptian and US flag looks a bit "forced" there, half on the rudder, half not... maybe you could move them a bit forward? (I know, there is a large bump there....) Hi, they're not overlapping the rudder, that's a panel line! Unfortunately it's just as deep as the line for the rudder... One of the many joys of 80s 1/144 kits! The lump is a rectangular navigation light so I have it up as far as I can without covering that. Both flags are pretty close to the correct size they need to be (see below) seeing they were donated from other kits. One of the biggest drawbacks of 1/144 modelling is the lack of after market parts and decals. Yes, you can get some bits and pieces for some of the modern kits but for old, long out of production kits like this, you're on your own. Wheels and stuff went on last night.

Speedman
Cheers Well... They're finished! I'll post some proper photos in the next few days. Canopies unmasked, exhausts fitted, ordnance fitted and the last bits of detail painting done. Drop tanks fitted. Here they are together with the X-29 I've been building for the group build. X-29 build.
trickyrich
well done!!!! it's really interesting to see the one aircraft in the different scheme she had in her short life! They make a great collection well done. Thanks for joining us here, it's always a pleasure to have you along with the 1/144ths, they are for the most part, sadly to say a forgotten scale in GB's. Hope you have fun and look forward to seeing your next projects.
