upnorth
Nice page with good photos, but ... If you want the real Su-25 must not work according photos the Czech and Slovak Sukhois. Visible difference in the ailerons. Different series were different the rear fuselage, ailerons, lights on the undercarriage. Photos bays that are on that page are for Su-25. A double version UB a single seat BM, has a wholly different bays. Also there are details such as armor electronics cover on nose, different location el. blocks in the nose, and many more ... Interesting; I had no idea the Czechoslovak Su-25s were that different from anyone else's.
Muzz
Paint on, Akan's Grey-Blue 73023 on the lower surface and Mr Hobby H338 Light Gray on top.
harvy5
Muzz you should still do hard cover of kinematics air brakes.
harvy5
Interesting; I had no idea the Czechoslovak Su-25s were that different from anyone else's. In Czechoslovakia were used by all production series and were never upgrade the standard 10th series. All were delivered in the years 1984 to 1987. Since 1988 in the Soviet Union during overhaul and medium repairs, upgrade to standard 10th series.
Muzz
Muzz you should still do hard cover of kinematics air brakes. Ah, I see what you mean, not a problem I'll sort that with a couple of bits of spare PE. I've left all the air inlets and other lumps and bumps off just now anyway due to the amount of decals going on. Thanks for that. Muzz
RMP2
What will you be using to gloss it? The decals do look interesting and pretty, but could be a nightmare of silvering and wrinkles. I really hope not - Im just trying to put myself off copying yours when I eventually get around to mine (looking for camo masking get-out clause excuses you see). Its looking well, good luck with the stickery bits!
Muzz
What will you be using to gloss it? I'll be using my gloss coat of choice, Alclad Aqua Gloss.
RMP2
Ill be keeping an eye on that, its surely a good test of a gloss and Ive not been overly impressed with what Ive tried in the past.
Muzz
I started decaling this morning, tried doing the tailplane to see how the decals went on. They were a bit too big but went on no problem with a bit of Micro Sol and I trimmed around the edges with a sharp blade. The only problem might be is the lightest grey colour on the decals is maybe too light and not grey enough. I'll get some pics up tomorrow. Muzz
It's been a mammoth decal session so far and maybe half way there, maybe not. The decals have behaved well although the curves some of them are expected to reach round have not been designed into the shape of the decals. Lots of Micro Sol required and a sharp scalpel blade. Here's how it looks so far........ As you can see from this photo I had to cut he decal that went over the top and down he side of the starboard engine intake, I'll be able to fill the gap in with spare bits of decal. (Some small spare sections are provided). If i didn't do this the angles would be all wrong because of the curve. No disasters so far, so quite happy with how its going.
noeyedears
shame they couldnt get the decal shape right, not really on for a set specifically designed for this plane, ill have to watch out for that when i get around to my one (STILL waiting for the engine mounted flare launchers from Eduard, starting to lose hope even though they assure me they are coming)
RMP2
In fairness to the decals - unless loads will be sold then its more financially viable to get pretty close and leave some spare bits on the sheet for touch ups, I doubt theres much profit overall from that set. Nice that they gave you the patch up bits as some sort of concession. Im holding out for the finished job before deciding if Ill go this way with mine, looking good, but also looking about as much work as 4/5 colour camo! Muzz
Just found this guys, which my effect you're decision on the decal/paint conundrum! I'm going to get a set to help with touching up areas and painting the air inlets etc. http://www.lindenhillimports.com/akanukraine.htm

Muzz
That's all the digital camo decals on and making a start on the rest, there's quite a few stencils to go on and after checking references, there not all entirely accurate but close enough (as I don't have any other option). I've applied another gloss coat over the everything that's down ready for the stencils that will be going over the top.

Muzz
nice what colours did you use in the end? I used Akan's Grey-Blue 73023 on the lower surface and Mr Hobby H338 Light Grey on top. I think the colours on the decals are a wee bit off. I've ordered the Akan paint set for the scheme, I'll see what the colours are like with them but would imagine they'll be closer. If I was starting from scratch I think I would by the decal set, make stencils using the decals as a plan, spray the scheme using Akan paints and use the stencils from the decal set. noeyedears
Hmmmm... thats an interesting idea, never tried that before. the decals look fine on yours though so why make all that extra work and risk all the possible bleed-under with all that masking for the same result. were you unhappy with how the decals worked for some reason? As I say I think the colours are slightly off, the lightest grey, needs to be more grey rather than beige/grey and the middle grey should probably be a bit lighter. The decals at the rear exhaust area and port air intake aren't accurate as there not sitting straight due to the curve in those area's. I'm going to have to match paint when painting the air inlets, chaff/flare dispensers etc, so I don't think painting the scheme will really be anymore work and probably more straight forward. noeyedears
Eduard actually came through with the flare dispensers!! so the only thing keeping me from starting is the same old problem of too many kits, not enough time. i recently bought an oshkosh so that has leapt to the top of the list (for now)
Muzz
Long overdue an update on this build.......................................... The decals are complete, the stencil decals provided with the Authentic Decal set are not 100% accurate but after some head scratching I decided they're was no other option and they'd have to do. After this I'll be adding the various air inlets and the countermeasures dispensers on the engine nacelles. I'll be working on this again so should see some progress.
