Nicolas V
Hello, since a lot I wanted to buil this ship and now I got the Airfix 1/180 one and I wanted to make a water diorama with it, I want to make something like this I just got problem, I have no idea how to make the underwater part It would be easier to not make it but I want to show the bottom of the ship. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO MAKE IT???? For the sailors I was thinking to use these https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/HAT8098there are not in the same scale but I put an old figure of 1/72 and it fitted well. What do you say??? Are other figures like this?? In the meanwhile I start the building I first made the "quarter" and "upper gun" deck they didn't fit well so I got to use some putty to fill some holes that I couldn't use (I needed 14 holes for the 14 pillars and I didn't even get more than 10 holes) Any answer or comment I will really appreciate it. Martian
The water looks like it is a Perspex box that has been tinted the desired colour. Rather than use 1/72 figures, I would have a look and see what either Preiser or the model railway world have to offer in a much closer scale to the kit. whitestar12chris
Hi Nicholas, i went a down a different route to the tinted perspex, found an aquarium backing see RFI thread below. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234985744-ijn-midget-submarine-type-a-pearl-harbour-172/ this is stage one of a diorama along the lines your proposing, i have a printed seascape to sit on top which i will cut out the hull shape of USS Arizona and USS Ward, to sit in so their hulls are seen below the waterline. Hope this helps, Chris

Nicolas V
First of all Thank to all of you for the answers!!! I now understand how the diorama that I put in the previous post was made and I also check the Presier figures as Martin said, I could not find the sailors I needed, so I will have to proceed with the hannants ones. Chris I like a lot the threat you link, and congratulations, it also gave me a lot ideas to my diorama... Now I have finished with the putty and add the stairs on the "upper gun deck" I now have to start the painting part. Again, thanks for the comments . Gimme Shelter
Hi Nicolas Good luck on your Victory build - you can pick up a life-times worth of advice and help over on the HMS Victory Modellers Resource Forum. Pete C, I know you're watching and forgive me on any account of copyright, but the build below from Pete's forum must be one of the best Victory Dioramas I've ever seen - its a 1/100 Heller Victory depicted after Trafalgar, which may inspire your build Nicolas Edited October 21, 2015 by Gimme Shelter
bhouse
"but I put an old figure of 1/72 and it fitted well. What do you say??? Are other figures like this??" While I admire your lateral (or vertical? ) thinking, imagine you were visiting the preserved HMS Victory in Portsmouth that had a company of actors playing the part of seamen from the era. That would really add to the realism. Now imagine that the actors were 4m tall. I think any realism would tumble off the deck and land in the sea! And that's how 1/72 figures will appear on a 1/180 model. But if you like the way the oversize figures look then go for it: it's your model and you have only yourself to please. Will you be rigging her? I've never had the nerve or patience to go that far ☺
Gimme Shelter
Just remembered Nicolas - those HAT Sailors wont work - they are only just close to working scale wise on a 1/100 Victory. There are some specialist shops that supply crew but your best bet is a web search to see what others have done in the past - you will probably have to invest in a set of N gauge or similar figures and paint them up individually

foxy
Hi Nicolas.Hope this helps, I used N Gauge figures from the N railway series. Some were of course altered to fit. Used Scale Warships 180 etchings for the ship. foxy
Nicolas V
Yes!! It They are very inspiring dioramas (the peter´s and foxi´s) Congratulations to the both!! Very sadly I have to say that I couldn't work on the Trafalgar day. Now I see and understand the point of the figures I a have in generally little experience on this hobby so sorry if I confuse a bit the things . I have been looking again in the N series the figures witch I need but I couldn't find them, the railway world has never interest me a lot so I have never had the chance to work on it. I don't understand much perhaps that is why I can;t find what I am looking for... Foxi could you please tell me about the from where exactly you got those figures?? I just want the kind of figures that the Hat kit have, but in my scale. My goal in the diorama is to represent the Victory sailing/leading the British fleet to the battle. PS: Patience is not one of my best virtues but I am going to ring her, that for me is key. So whatever the cost I will do it . But I don't know yet if the I am going to use the wire that the Airfix kit brings. Cheers

foxy
Cheers John Nicolas V. Well if you have any Railway or shops that sell models near you, they maybe will help. You can also look on other sites that sell models. Models for sale/Hannants/ even aircraft sellers might help, surf the net is your best bet. As for figures like Hats in 1/72, there far to big for 1/100 let alone 1/180 ships. You will not find any figures the scale you want with a naval flavour, they have to be re-made using existing manufacturers. Slaters I beleave was the one's I used for the 1/180 scale figures, they are just white plastic and can be altered to fit your bill. Hope this helps. foxy
