robvulcan Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 Cheers Dean I had not noticed the Bunny ears (I will have to check the meaning behind that one I forgot.) Cheers Andy Yes Esoteric symbols of ancient spiritual powers of peace and love, Or Egyptian, Or Illuminati, The true meaning is forgotten or never known to the masses but for good measure Niall (Blonde dude) Painted the are inverted All Seeing Eye on my left arm. I have always loved these ancient symbols. Symbol Language and Egyptian things too. Its fascinating. One thing that I have found particularly interesting Is Saturn Worship and Saturnus which seems to be the oldest use of these symbols along with the Purple Dawn Theory of the evolution of our solar systems and all religions seeming to stem from Saturn Worship. I should paint a Vulcan on the back of my Jacket ahah. Regarding the Windows on the Stirling I thought they might be painted over so I will open them all except the one on the front you noted and go from there. Nothing is simple is it. All good fun though. I see they have not got the aerial as wrong as I thought its the hole for that Rugby ball shaped thing on top. Wonderful photos I would love to see a new Stirling made to fly at Airshows now that would be something to see. Cheers Rob 1
general melchett Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 (edited) Don't let's get started about symbology, Saturn, Illuminati, encrypted messages, Thule Society, Vril and Black Sun....it'll be another huge thread derailment ! Any progress on the Vulcan based Flying Vee idea.... I agree Melvyn, lovely shot...early Mk.1 series 1 minus the FN7 and with earlier camo pattern, nicely shows the correct position of the aileron actuators too. I thought its the hole for that Rugby ball shaped thing on top. That's the DF loop....but the way England 'performed' recently you may as well give it to them to kick about !... I would love to see a new Stirling made to fly at Airshows now that would be something to see. John and the lads are doing their best, we just need Cees on the case and you never know ! Whofan Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 (edited) Mel, Is that a John Entwistle warwick bass guitar in there? (Oops, fancy making that mistake!) [qiuote name=melvyn hiscock" post="2141764" timestamp="1445558963]I really shouldn't drop these into a thread about Stirlings, and that kit DOES look fun but... I sold a few of these over the years, it looked after me better than the Hurricane book has!A few from years ago. This lot is comfortably into 7 and possibly 8 figures now when added up and , perhaps, the reason I have been looking back today was (and you read it here first) today I ceased to be the owner of this lady. general melchett Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Just one thing Rob remember to put the unbulged tail wheel doors on your Mk.1, quite often the doors were left off altogether and the gear locked down if there were any issues with gear retraction, (which was quite frequent apparently). 1
melvyn hiscock Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 (edited) Mel, Is that a John Entwistle warwick bass guitar in there? (Oops, fancy making that mistake!) No, they are the original Alembic ones. The Telecasters are all Townshend's. Three Schecters and the burst is a rare Chandler Giffin. Edited October 24, 2015 by melvyn hiscock 1

Ex-FAAWAFU Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Not being unduly turned on by the Italeri Stirling, I have only just got to this thread. I had no idea that BM was such a home for guitar players. I have no pics to hand, but I share the same affliction; my babies include an SG for slide (my primary passion - sainthood beckons for Derek Trucks), a Strat Plus - a beautiful guitar - and a Firebird VII to satisfy my inner Phil Manzanera. Alas, the joys of rheumatoid arthritis mean I don't play as much as I used to or would like, but I'd no more part with that lot than sell my legs! 5

Cheers General I will do that I am not sure about the doors I will copy what I see in the photos I notice the lower Fuse bar attachment you mention is absent from mine too., I will go the route of opening the windows and Painting the ones over as you say was done in reality. I remember mention of this with the Lancasters I wonder why they did this ? Rob Can we stop getting distracted with all this talk of modelling and get back on topic? Yes Guitars Amps Stirling's its all to play for. If a British Guitar company emerged the name "STIRLING" could be a good one. Not being unduly turned on by the Italeri Stirling, I have only just got to this thread. I had no idea that BM was such a home for guitar players. Alas, the joys of rheumatoid arthritis mean I don't play as much as I used to or would like, but I'd no more part with that lot than sell my legs! I am very sorry to hear of your woes there I hope I never get that as my Grandad had it. Have you considered Chinese Medicine I know other Guitarists who have sought successful help with that. I know it sounds bad I don't do it myself and I am not recommending it but I have heard of people legally being allowed to use small amounts or Cannabis for pain relief with joint and muscular issues and to remedy these issues with some effect. I have been delayed once again as last night we went to see one of my favourite Bands Santa Cruz who are on a world tour at the moment and where in Wolverhampton last night. They where amazing and then later in the street got talking to Archie their lead singer and Guitarist as we was coming out of the Chicken shop. He invited us to a Metal pub there and we spend all night in the pub with them and the groupies from Finland till about 3am was an awsome night. Not often you get invited by one of your hero’s in the street to do that so now I am having a Coffee and preparing for the Stirling. Heres some photos of last night : Archie , Very nice bloke too as well as being a mind blowing guitarist singer and performer. Blury photo but our singer Chloe got a photo with him While yours truly found a throne to sit on in the Pub haha So now I am back to filing windows haha 5
melvyn hiscock Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 It is funny, all this talk of guitars is making want to get restarted on some models. But then, I do guitars most of the time. 1
general melchett Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 They were plated over often coz they weren't needed and cut down the reflection... We spend all night in the pub with them and the groupies from Finland Oh yes ??....I've heard all about these 'groupies from Finland', does the memsahib know ? nice shot of you on the throne....result of a particularly powerful Balti ?.. Not often you get invited by one of your hero’s in the street Had this happen with Lemmy back in early 1976 at my home town's St Albans Civic Centre when Motorhead were just kicking off, we got chatting at the bar and after the gig we all went into The Goat pub for a chinwag and drink or ten...........he's one wise old bird and stood his round too ! 3
melvyn hiscock Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 In fact, if the car is working, I may even goo to Telford 1

The Mrs was there with me haha she is fun like that. I was just nursing a Guinness and happy to see that the 80s Hard Rock scene is still very much alive and kicking along with the parties. I love Lemmy its a shame to hear him say he's not feeling so good at the moment. Talking to Lemmy would be amazing he has a great mind and his lyrics are amazing. Along with his sense of Humour.
general melchett Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Absolutely Rob....one of the most 'with it' people I've ever met....talked more sense in 5 minutes than most so called 'Rock Stars' manage in a lifetime ! and that's after 2 bottles of JD a day, (not).....ah so Lady Vulcan was there was she,......brave girl. Melvyn it would be good to see you there.....
melvyn hiscock Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Micky Moody was telling me that when they did the Moody Young Band, which was him, Bob Young who wrote Status Quo's stuff and played 'our Monica', Cozy Powell on Drums, Don Airey on keyboards, Lemmy on bass and the Nolan Sisters on backing vocals (you couldn't make this up), they were in the studio and Micky picked up Lemmy's headphones by mistake and the volume nearly deafened him! 1
general melchett Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 (edited) Well with Mr Kilmister everything's turned up to 11......Lemmy and the Nolans, conjures up a pretty picture doesn't it..... Edited October 25, 2015 by general melchett

robvulcan Posted October 26, 2015 Author Posted October 26, 2015 What a thread! Guitars and Stirlings, wish i had found it sooner..... I've had some lovely guitars and amps over the years, but over time they got sold off. Some i don't regret selling, but i miss my old Marshall dsl401 (that thing could sing!), and i had an Epiphone Les Paul standard. I tried that and a Gibson in the shop at the same time and i honestly preferred the way the Epiphone felt and played... Would still love a Gibson though. Anyway, i put some Gibson 490t pick ups in it and through the Marshall it was sublime. The amp got sold, the guitar got nicked Also have a cheap Squire Telecaster that cost me £120 - It cost peanuts but is amazingly nice to play and doesn't sound too bad either. I'll end up modding it with different pick ups hardware over time. Amp wise, i've whittled it down to a Blackstar HT1R - 1 watt, which sounds pitiful but its still loud enough to annoy the neighbours (and wake my kids up). I'm hoping to start playing with a few people again soon though, maybe get a band together, so i'll have to get something with a few more decibels.... Oh, and i still have my old Line 6 Pod xt kicking around somewhere, all the amps and effects you could ask for. Sorry for going on, just loving all the guitar talk! And the Stirling is looking great too Rob! Nick Nick I have a Squire Classic Vibe 60s Strat and Love the thing. I do love a good Strat and in my experience no two are the same. I love any guitar that plays well and sounds great. Quite often price does not correlate with this. Line 6 gear I use alot you can't fault it. I can recommend the Laney ironheart you can turn the watts right down to 1 watt from 120 but it really comes alive when you open it up. Its hard selling guitars. I find it easier to buy them than sell them, The last time I tried to sell 1 I ended up buying 2 more.. I was only shopping for strings at the time.. Like the second-from-left here, General? Very nice collection John that S looks nice is that the one with acoustic pick-up ? Only just found this thread, Rob - do you indulge in this madness every year? I think you do, but you always seem to make it . I shall be watching and cheering you on. Have a good gig tomorrow! I don't intend too but the last few years have been manic with work and I always like to try and have something new for a show. First it was getting my Dads spit ready for Christmas finishing on Christmas eve. Then it was getting the White Vulcan in the snow and Mig ready for Telford. Then the Church and Harrier for Telford the following year. Along with the Vulcan 4 week challenge from hell sent to me by the Devil himself General Melchett in time for Cosford. So its all accidental but it makes for more entertainment and grey hairs for me haha. I find I seem to work better under pressure but I don't think that its healthy. Cheers for the good luck wishes the gig went very well and was a lot of fun My heavily modified Aria FA 71 that I like to call Big Blondie. That's lovely I have always loved the big box guitars but never had one. I played a few though and they are another world of sound. I would love to hear it through my Carvin Belair I bet it would sound great. I really shouldn't drop these into a thread about Stirlings, and that kit DOES look fun but... I sold a few of these over the years, it looked after me better than the Hurricane book has! A few from years ago. This lot is comfortably into 7 and possibly 8 figures now when added up and , perhaps, the reason I have been looking back today was (and you read it here first) today I ceased to be the owner of this lady. A hard and upsetting day I have been working on a Book for Guitar with what I believe would be a unique approach to make music easy for people on the guitar and cut all the bumff out with some unique approaches too but I have no idea how to go about getting it published or protecting my work. I hope one day to get it out there. It might be a digital age but there is still something about Books you cannot beat. True Bill...have you heard Rob play ?.....he's way too modest to admit it but the boy can sure play...and shredding !.... Err....nope....gone again..... Yes I am indeed I have a confident side to me now but inside I still have a shy side which comes from school. I fight it now and getting through it but its not just that its that I do music because I love it and that's always been the main motivator. Many others do it as a way to get laid drink be popular and that's all fun fine and good but for me its just the iceing on the cake. I have held myself back on stage with the facial expressions etc in the past for fear of looking stupid but now I realise that you look more silly just stood there. Its weird how guitarists make all these weird expressions but its natural as to me and I am sure other guitarists its like a vocal instrument through your fingers. When I play a note its in my head too. (Except for the mistakes ahah) I would hate to come across like a big head. Its tough being a lead guitarist in that respect because people see you play something that might be a bit fast and technical and usually most love it but some will instantly assume your up your own backside and its very often not the case. Usually the opposite is true and the people who say that are often up their own for whatever reason. Its like many people over the years have hated Vai for example but he really is one of the nicest people in the industry who has done so much not only for guitar but other musicians too. I think its like many areas of working in life that there are a few loud idiots who ruin it for the rest of us. It like the other night seeing Santa Cruz. They are full of beans on stage and look so confident and over the top but meeting Archie in the street he's a really nice chilled out guy and just like meeting any of us. the rest of the band seem very quiet too. Thanks for the compliment Andy I just love playing and you should go out soon and buy yourself a Guitar again and an amp. or start Plum Duff Guitars.. I have to say I still love a good steel block vintage trem when it is set up right. But then, I got taught by the best! I hate locking nuts as they are unnecessary if the guitar is set up properly and cause more problems than they solve. At Giffin's, years ago, we did some guitars with standard trems but fixed onto a steel insert with a rounded top set into the body. That worked really well. I don't know the Kramer you mentioned, although I was never a fan of them in general, but I do remember setting up the Washburns that went to Bernie and Micky when they were endorsees in the original Whitesnake. Incidentally, Micky is now using my pickups in his slide guitar and Neil Murray was talking to be last year about coming along to some air displays! For out and out rock and roll I love a P90 which I have on several guitars, into either my Boogie 22 (an amp with a story of it's own) or my AC30. Incidentally, the Strat I posted up yesterday has a set of my hybrid pickups which, and I know I am biased, I really love and so, it seems do other people. The new one I will be putting together in the next couple of weeks will also get a set. I have known a few strats stay in tune but for how I use a trem they just don't do what I need for many tracks, I have used Floyds but I prefer the Ibanez Edge and Lo-Pro Edge they are hands down the best trems ever and if set right do not go out of tune ever. Its not just that I love the way they feel under my hands they also make a massive improvement on the sound of a guitar I have found. I have known many people destroy their Floyds by adjusting the height whilst having strings and springs on which destroys the knife edges. I always set mine loose then fit the springs and strings to do the rest. But I am not against the old trem's I hear having good locking tuners makes a massive difference and hear about pencil in the nut etc. I would love to know how to make a normal trem work. My burns Brian May does alright with minimal use. But I am one of those nutters who likes to dive bomb to the point strings fall off the fret board and pull the bar up till the trem hits the body ! Too much fun ahaha. Die Cast Floyds though are junk its got to be steel. Logged on looking for a Stirling . . . dropped onto a guitar forum, silly me. I still wonder if the Italeri Stirling will put in an appearance ?? Anybody got an update please ? Some where it will soon sorry.. Its these windows thats taking the time. My love for all things Bogner started in 2007. Plugged into one at Guitar Guitar on a trip to Newcastle. It was the first of the big name, high value amps that IMHO lived up to the hype. I ordered one the following week. Decided that if I was going to order one and spend daft money, then I might as well spend a bit more and get it in a custom colour. For overdrive it's the best all I've ever owned save a 71 Super Lead that did the early Van Halen thing to a tee. Since added a Shiva 20th Anni and Duende to the fold. The Duende is probably my "go to" amp. Somehow knew your name was familiar Melvyn. I'm also familiar with Tony Hicks name, I'm sure a friend of mine, Julian Carter, has mentioned him recently. Oh, and agree with Alnico V being shrill, although it can work in extended scale guitars such as baritones. I would so love and Bogner Ecstasy they sound incredible. So expensive though but worth every penny Sorry for the late replys Cheers Rob 2
nick32 Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 I quite fancy one of those Classic Vibes, by all accounts they are superb - Certainly as good as the made in mexico fenders from what i hear. Mines a lowly Affinity, i bought it to satisfy my hankering for a Telecaster without shelling out too much - It plays brilliantly for what it is, but i still lust after a Fender... I'm glad you mentioned your amp, because i'm starting to think about splashing out on a jam/gig worthy amp, my little Blackstar is ace but wouldn't stand a chance. The Laney Ironheart is one i've got my eye on, what i need to do is get out there and try some out. Dream amp at the mo is the Mesa Boogie Rectoverb - I love that Metallica 'crunch' sound, and the cleans are meant to be very good to. But at £1300 it would be very hard to justify...... I do have a question about guitar set up though for anyone that can shed some light..... I've spent some time on my Epiphone Explorer this weekend and got the neck relief and action pretty much where i want it. The intonation is almost there, but when fretting anywhere within the first few frets the notes sharpen quite a bit. Its very noticable, chords sound pretty bad. I fitted a new top nut a while back, i'm wondering if the string slots are too high? Thanks, Nick 1
John Laidlaw Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Very nice collection John that S looks nice is that the one with acoustic pick-up ?. Ta! The S770PB? Mine are always fractionally above the first fret and play like a dream it makes bends better too. The Laney Irongheart is brilliant for the money you wont find better. Its good enough for Killswitch Engage who ditched Hughes and Kettner amps in favour. Also as well as me and the other guitarist in the band using them last night the main support for Santa Cruz where using one. We use the 120 Watt version but the 60 is also great however my mate who works at Laneys Distribution centre says they prefer the 120 its apparently Cleaner. Its an odd amp though because the way the knobs work is different to normal amps that go 0 to 10 this does minus and plus numbers with 0 at 12 o'clock. It also has the option for 6L6 or EL34 power tubes and many speaker connections with 3 channels so its very versatile. Squier Classic Vibes are good mine was better than the USA and Mexicans we had. Or as good as. Better because its cheaper but sounded best. Ta! The S770PB? Nope, that has the Infinity pups... not the best in the world, but the guitar is a dream to play. thepureness Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Have you thought if you continue with the guitar chat, it will never get to telford - this is intended as a joke 1

English Electric Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 What's this? Guitars... gadzooks... here's one of my two... It's a 1963 Framus Caravelle. Unusual eh? The other, which is hiding in its case is a 1965 Hofner Verithin... with a lovely Bigsby on the back! Both perfect for playing R'n'B and the blues, which is my thing. In fact... (brace yourselves), I've only ever had one solid - which was a Fender Jaguar. Loved it, but couldn't get on with the electrics. Apart from that aberration, it's been Rickenbackers, Gretsches, Hofners, the odd Mosrite and Vox semi, and a very old Harmony. No Gibson 335's weirdly enough... Chris 6
