1/72 Broplan (vac) Potez XXV

Recommended Posts

Here's an oddball for you- A French Potez XXV in Spanish Republican markings. The Potez XXV was actually built in pretty good numbers in the mid 30s and served with many foreign air forces. Broplan has kits of a couple different versions, this one depicts the A2 I believe.

The kit looked great on the sheet and went together nicely. There were no white metal parts included so I scratchbuilt the Scarff ring and landing gear and used the kit moldings for the wheels and propeller. I also built a complete interior just for the fun of it because not much can be seen now!

That's an exemple of impressive vacform handling skills!

In fact, at first I didn't realise it was a vac, although the slightly roounded trailing edges might be a giveaway.

Superb work, not least with that smart rigging, and an interesting replica of a plane I know next to nothing about.

Kind regards,

Joachim

Beautiful job on that kit! I love Spanish Civil War subjects and that's one I need to do. An undeservingly obscure aeroplane as I believe more Potez XXV's were produced between the wars than any other aircraft. I have one I intend on doing as a Paraguayan example from the Gran Chaco War - how's that for oddball!

Regards,

Jason

Hello Dan, thank you very much for sharing your work with us and what a lovely build and model you now have! I like Broplan kits and have made the Heinkel He-8 seaplane, its was a lot of work, but, the very enjoyable. Lookingforward to your next project, kind regards, Colin. PS: L&M Resin kits on ebay produce resin kits of a Breguet and Potez biplanes - FYI.

Thank you all for your kind comments!

That is really excellent. I would like to have seen this as a 'work in progress' because my attempts at vac-form have been few and rubbish!

I really could use a few tips!

Regards

Jim

Hi Jim,

I did post a few in-progress shots on the Hyperscale 1/72 forum where we are running a Spanish Civil War group build, here are the links if you'd like to see it go together...

As you can see, everything I did is standard stuff for vac-building except for the jig I made, I've found that type of thing really helps when it comes time to make cabane struts and keep things lined up correctly.

Thanks Joachim. I'm still working on getting nice thin trailing edges on the vac kits I build, I tend to err on the side of caution when sanding!

Thanks Jason. I didn't know anything at all about the Potez XXV before starting on this one but you're right, over 4000 were built in various versions and they saw widespread service around the world. Your Paraguayan Potez sounds like an interesting project, I hope to see it here soon!

Excellent one here! :)

I have two in stash, but I am still not ready to do....

Cheers

Jerzy-Wojtek

Thanks Jerzy! What are you waiting for? :) I would love to see what you would do with your kits, they seem to be just your cup of tea.

Hi Colin, I'm getting to be a big Broplan fan and am always on the lookout for their kits now. Thanks for the tip on the L&M kits, I'll definitely be checking them out!

Regards to all,

Colin,

Thanks, I'll check Aviation Megastore to see what might tempt me. I also looked at the L&M kits available on ebay last night, they look very nice!
