***FINISHED*** AFV Club 1/35 M5A1 Stuart (Late) - "Fish n Chips" + interior

Next build will be the AFV CLub M5A1 Late (AF35161)... Going to go for the "Fish n Chips" markings from 113th Cav. but adding the rear storage box as I like the roof top star marking and the rear storage box (know not probably accurate but...)

have the Verlinden interior set to add (my first resin - assume normal superglue will work - any other tips) which I know is for the Tamiya kit but believe will fit...

box photos later....

box shots... started on the hull - cleaned up the transmission (assume thats the bit at the front) - and started to look at how it fits - will do lots of dry fitting on this before going anywhere near glue....

Looks nice resin Rob - as you say, fit twice glue once. Look forward to this - I'm not ready to start on detailed AFV interiors yet but may be tempted soon with the right subject

thanks Andy, I specifically got this kit to try the interior (have done an OOTB one on a Pz 1 previously)... am thinking longer term that I will also get some US tankers and a base but am thinking I need sand armour and stowage first!

Yes, I think stowage is a 'must' if you're doing it 'in theatre' in a dio...some nice stuff from Legends, Verlinden and Real Armour on offer

some progress, verlinden interior is fitting in not too badly, only real surgery was to review the kit moulded transmission off each side... should get more work done this week (need to get the Pz IV weathered as well)

no more photos but a little progress - started on the turret floor - boy that was a pain to get aligned and cutting and cleaning up the stowage for the rest of the interior... what I am realising more & more is that I am going to have to do this in a very modular way and then go back through the instructions for the full assembly... to have the hatches open means there will be bits & pieces in various states of assembly for some time to come....

but I am enjoying the challenge and it is making me want to look at a small diorama for this kit.

still no more photos.. the preparation of the interior continues... gun built (need to add a hessian bag on it to catch the spent rounds), first hatch done (only 3 more plus 2 additional visors to mount)... all coming along slowly but steadily

no progress as I have been away on business, but have just ordered the PanzerArt sandbag armour... might do the rear stowage myself as the blast/legend sets look too neat....

photo - some bits & bobs... also the potential rear stowage from ValueGear... this is for a Sherman but photos provided by ValueGear showed it should look good on the M5A1.....

panzerart sandbag armour arrived - must say it looks rather nice... think I am nearly done with the interior (at least the resin side) - just need to add the 4 control levers on the inside of the front glacis and turret basket struts & seats... then a couple of machine gun mounts and 2 small pieces on the main gun... then away for the weekend so not sure when she will be prepped for painting

no photos but more work... received some gorgeous stowage from ValueGear (really great customer service that started with a simple question from me) - Sherman deck units plus some bits & pieces. The deck piece fits but means removing the moulding on the deck piece (or in my case making a blank piece for the deck rather than break the kit piece (that way if I DONT use the stowage I can just put in the kit piece)...

I think I am done with the bits & bobs for the interior. just need to double check and then "cocktail stick" the bits and mark up those bits still on the sprues that need painting...

Hi Rob

Just seen the Value Gear stuff on the web - looks good. Where did you order this from?

Andy, I ordered direct as I wanted to check something with Stephen (the owner) - order placed last week, arrived form the US yesterday. in the UK, FieldofGlory stock:

"think" I have all the bits for the interior sorted. was going to paint the inside of the hatches white as per the instructions but all the images I have seen of them in service would imply "same as outside" so going to be OD when I do that. Must say, I like the verlinden set - a nice addition

the bag on the gun is to catch spent shell cases - made from tissue & white glue

interior has been primed - hope to hit with off white (just very faint tint with buff to allow a highlight of pure white in the weathering) tomorrow... started on the wheels as well - really nice construction on the bogies. Cant wait to start adding the exterior, this kit is building up really nicely

quick question... the interior has a fixed fire extinguisher on the rear bulkhead... any thoughts on colour (am thinking red, white or OD - and the guage on the top - brass?)

interior weathering (sorry abut the photo quality) - need to touch up a couple of details but think the interior is now done (unless anyone spots anything glaringly obvious that I need to attend to)

lots of progress last night.. interior done (struggled with the turret floor but its in (just) and now the seats & gun is in it isnt all that visible... the sand bags are just placed for now - think when I do come to fit them I am going to have to leave the lights & light guards off and fit them after (fiddly)
