Once again, nothing but good to say about the Fisher set!

Thanks all! Stuffing the nose weight in there wasn't easy, but the fuselage is closed up now. Not looking forward to those seams!

I'm guessing the HK Models nose weight doesn't fit the Fisher Models nose. Hopefully the weight of the resin conversion will limit the weight you needed to add!

Regards,

Mark

Actually Paul Fisher says to use the HK nose weight. It does fit, but requires some shoving. What with the solid resin tail, I'm thinking I'll want all the weight I can get up there.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, I tackled the seams and think I have them largely conquered, so I threw on the wings. The story so far:

No tail yet as I have the feeling it's going to be the most fragile part of the build and I don't want to knock it off while I work the wing joints. Here's the installed cockpit in glorious color:

And up the intake:

I actually used modified kit parts for the wing spars as the Fisher parts sit too far forward in the short chord intakes. Moving along a bit now!

Your build, complex as it is, seems (no pun intended!) to be going swimmingly well Michael with some very precise razor saw work. It's such a relief when the first cut made with trepidation ends with a snug fit!! :)

Thanks guys! It's always scary to cut things up, but it helps to have a great quality conversion to work with.

Thanks for all the nice comments! Unfortunately, when I did a preliminary shot of silver to the seams, it looks like I have a bit more work to do. Sigh. Onward we go!

Well, after some elbow grease and a new shoot of silver, here's how it looks now:

Better but still have some more to do. That underside forward fuselage/wing joint is especially stubborn. Sigh.

Thanks guys! It's the new nose Max, no doubt. However, last night I finally realized that the belly tank will hide most of that seam so things are looking up!

OK, here we go:

Trying a new technique from someone who hates preshading and recommends this for all paint schemes, but especially silver:

Actually, I think it looks pretty cool like this! We'll see how the Floquil Old Silver goes down when it's good a dry.

Nice finish there Michael, the topcoat should go down well. I am interested in seeing what you do with this.

Me too! It dried well, so we'll be putting the speed silver down today. We'll see!

And suddenly:

20151129_140331_zpsqq14nvbm.jpg

How 'bout that?

Israel painted the intakes and nose in quartered black and white so I thought I'd be clever and mask off the black there. Worked OK on the nose, not so much on the intake lips. No big deal, should be easy enough to paint the black with a brush then mask and airbrush the white. But the speed silver came out pretty well I think.
