Lovely model - I'm intrigued by the half fuselage invasion stripes. What's the background to that?

M

famous photo shows this

Emperor-08.JPG

September 1944 - Hellcat 'W' on deck off the Greek island of Leros, partly overpainted stripes.

Excellent. I hear nothing but good things about this kit, so I guess it would be rude not to add one to the stash!

Really? the kit is another infamous example of a Hobby Boo Boo... looks nice, builds easily, accurate, no.

cockpit is way overscale, thick spine. Poor cowling.

How much?

grey HB, brown Eduard.

Enzo Matrix used a spare Eduard fuselage from a boxing that contains both to make a 'Frankencat' here

as the one useful feature of the kit is the wingfold, which is why I post the last one, as these do turn up cheap.

Jezz, sorry to add this into your thread, your build and paint job are excellent, and the end result looks great, and like most things from HB, it 'looks' like a Hellcat, but, well, I thought it worth giving folks a warning on the kit given you do it far more justice than it perhaps warrants.

Hope of use.

That will teach me to read thread titles properly; it is actually the Eduard 1/48 kit about which I have heard only good things. On the ther hand, all the more kudos to Jezz for making such a fine looking model out of a sow's ear of a model (I'm taking your word for that, since I am very far from being an expert on the type).
