tiking
How to paint the engine glow effect you see in space movies light Star Wars and many other Sci-Fi movies out there? I am looking for using the colors associated with two vehicles from Star Wars. The rebel transporter and the X-wing fighter. I know the X-wing has orange glow and the rebel transporter has bluish glow. I like the Citadel color range so if you can give me some tips on which colors to use I would appreciate it. roymattblack
You won't ever replicate the engine glow with just paint. In the movies it's either extremely bright light or an added special effect. About the nearest you might get is to use dayglo paints over a dayglo white base. Google or ebay dayglo paints... Roy. tiking
OK. Thanks. I understand that I cannot get it exactly. Maybe I should have said close enough.
Anthony Kesterton
Another way would be to use lights (LED's seem to be the preferred option). Madmonk (on this forum) sells lighting kits.
tiking
Thanks. But I do not have the possiblity. The X-wing game Rebel Transporter is very small and does have the option to open up.
Madmonk
If you can't fit LEDs, try this YouTube video. Cheers, Warren
Smiffy
There's a guy on youtube called Jay Adan (he was one of the modellers on Starship Troopers). A couple of weeks ago, he posted a video where he was painting up some HALO wargaming miniature ships. He demonstrated his method of replicating engine/lighting glow using paint. You might like to check it out.
JasonC
Try googling "object source lighting" or OSL. It's a miniature painting technique for replicating light effects with paint. Not straightforward, but it's an option if you don't want to go the electric route. regards, Jason

paulj
I remember back in the late 70s early 80s, Humbroll used to do a can of luminous glow in the dark paint. It was really effective, don't know if elf and safety would allow it these days. Paul Edited September 16, 2015 by paulj
