Greetings folks,

Long time no post and after 18 months, finally a completed model. My fourth instalment in my Suez/Operation Musketeer series. This is the 1/72 PJ Productions Hawker Hunter F.5, a relatively simply full resin kit, with a small photo etch sheet, white metal landing gear and two vac-form canopies. This is my first resin kit and goes together well, the solid wings simply butt-joint to the fuselage. The instructions said to leave off the link collectors, though some artworks on the web seem to indicate they should be present. 'Tis done now.

Paints are my usual Halfords Plastic Primer and Xtracrylix Dark Grey and Dark Green with pre and post-shading. Camo was airbrushed free-hand and is not too sharp on reflection. Decals are thin, somewhat translucent and prone to breaking; the roundels got replaced with some from my trusty Xtradecal roundel sheet.

After this, it gets a whole lot more serious, to complete the Operation Musketeer series I plan to build a 1/72 CMR Venom FB.4 and an 1/72 Airfix Canberra/Aeroclub B.6 conversion. On present estimates, call back in 2017... :weep:

On with the photos.

Very nicely done.

But from all I've read, if you leave your Hunter parked with the flaps down it means you have to buy everyone a round of beer at the officers' club.

Hello,Darren - Welcome back to the Forum! What a grand comeback model as well! I love the quality of finish and your chosen scheme which have created a Corker of a Hawker! Well done indeed. All the best,Paul.

Or at least make a significant contribution to the bar fund!

Nice return Darren, lovely model of the prettiest jet ever!

Thank you guys, very kind comments.

With regard to the flaps, the photo etch parts bear only a passing resemblance to the recess in the lower side of the wings, probably the worst part of the kit. To do flaps up would require the recess to be filled and panel lines reinstated, so I chose the option of least resistance. Had I known that mind cost me several beers, I might have done it differently!

With regard to a round of drinks, will this do?

That's a 10/10 from me...hard to believe it's not at least 1/48 (or 1/1!)

And mine's a pint of mild, lol

Yep, lovely! :drink:

One thing, when you come to do the Canberra, they were often seen with flaps down when parked! :D

Thanks Keith, though from a base Canberra B(I).8, I'm not sure the Eduard B(I).8 landing flap set is technically correct for a B.6? But frankly, if they bloody fit I'll be happy, that and if I get it to sit on the nose wheel...

Who's to say the fitters haven't dropped the flaps for maintenance.Maybe it's due a lube ☺

Hi Darren,

Excellent build of a lovely aeroplane. I have one in the waiting list as well. Just one point - I am a guide at Tangmere Military Aviation Museum and we have a Hunter F5 there which has the link collectors fitted. Likewise there are photos there of both the Hunters of 1 and 34 Sqdns - as far as I can see all of them have the link collectors fitted.

Hi Darren,

I love it, it is a fab model! I want to find one of these, the Hunter is for me what the Vulcan is to Rob, above...

Cheers, great looking Hunter mate!
