SLt A G Blake 19 Sqn RAF - Aircraft Codes QV* ?

Recommended Posts

I have, for some time, been building a collection of aeroplanes flown by Fleet Air Arm aces (more time planning than doing). This, of course, means Skuas, Sea Hurricanes, Seafires, Hellcats, Corsairs etc...

In connection with the anniversary of the Battle of Britain and the fact that several FAA pilots were volunteered to serve with the RAF I wanted to build some RAF aircraft flown by those pilots.

To that end I am currently working on the two Hurricanes (Airfix new tool 1/48) representing the aircraft of SLt Cork and SLt Gardner, 242 Sqn Hurricanes using the Xtradecal sets.

I am also going to build two Spitfires, one representing SLt Dawson-Paul serving with 64 Sqn RAF and the other representing SLt A G Blake's 19 Sqn Spitfire. It is the second of these I have a question about..

The aeroplane most associated with Blake is P7423 QV*Y but according to Aces High (or at least the excerpt I've seen) three of Blakes victories were won in R6991. P7423 being the aeroplane he was shot down in.

So here is my question:- What was the aircraft Code letter for R6991? QV* what?
