British Airways A380

Made a start adding the decals to the engine casings tonight - looking much more life like already!

The fuselage has stuck together adequately - now I need to focus on inserting the windscreen...!

Here's an updated picture on the engine casings! On a side not - is there anyway to remove a stuck down decal? Been down a couple of hours possibly? Tried adding more decalfix to the area, but to no effect! :(

Thanks!

Now, I've come across a possible colour for the 'Airbus grey'. If the spray is acrylic, I'd seriously consider using it to do the wings again and possibly start looking at recolouring the engine to wing interface.

Any thoughts on this?

Thank you!

I'm really impressed with how much the decals change the paint job!

I bought some Holts paint that Ray from 26decals thought was a good match for Airbus/Boeing grey - I'm happier with the results than the Forddove grey!

Here's the pictures with an old and new.

So I'm very nearly finished with the paint jobs and on my way to adding lacquer and decals!

I'm planning to apply more paint to the wings to try and get a nice grey colour as there are still hints of brown coming through. I'm going to tape the fuselage and add some more white paint to try and rid the model of any blue that has strayed. Might see if it's possibly to add a little filler to the cracks and file it down so that it all seems to be one piece - I have milliput, how would I go around that?

Anyways, see for yourselves!

That is looking good Ryan, Putty would not hurt. You can get a white putty from Tamiya that would work better than Milliput IMO.

What decals are you after from the kit sheet?

How would you best suggest using the putty? Fill in the gaps literally? I'm unsure of how to fill them and then file them down!

Each modeller finds his/her own best way of doing things especially filling gaps, but here is a link that might help.

That's now looking good, mate, I was a bit sceptical on what it would look like but that's turned out not to bad.

What a difference to the paint job on the wings when you use proper model tape.

What was the paint codes you have used on the wings.

Cheers David

David.

Oh really!?

Are you sure!?

I literally only need the engine attachment pieces. The actual casings are fine, but the bits that attach to the wings I'm going to need four sets of if you have them going spare!

Thank you!

On a side note, looking at pictures, the under wing bits with red at the end of them seem to be a slightly different colour to the rest of the wing. Is this just shading?

Thank you for that. I was worried there was some science behind it - apparently not! Yay!

Literally filled in the cracks I wanted to fill in about ten minutes with a cocktail stick! Will cover up and add a few last sprays to the fuselage in blue and then start adding lacquer.

The 'under wing bits' are flap actuator fairings and they are the same colour as the wings.

Also 'engine casings' are known as engine nacelles

So I've started adding the decals tonight.

Had some right issues with the tail section and the wrapping red. I'm going to speak to Ray and see if it would be possible to acquire some more so that I can tidy them up as I'm not at all happy with thine effort!

However! I've decided that I shall be using this as evidence that I can be a part of the Royal college of surgeons, so we shall see how that goes!

Behold part of the beast done as shown:

Work is still progressing, I promise.

Unfortunately I was dragged into resus. on Saturday afternoon with palpitations... That lasted for 3 hours. Pulse rate was through the roof at 210 and so I was quite poorly. A few doses of adenosine and some IVbeta blockers brought me back to normal sinus rhythm, however I have been exhausted since, so little more progress but not huge amounts.

In terms of moving forward, I would like to know where I'm placing the identification letters for the plane. Would I be correct in saying these do not include numbers? I'm wanting to use GXLEI as the numbers are a combination of my birth date! I'm thinking that these would go on the fuselage, above the cockpit decals, and on both sides of the tail fin at the top?

Registration letters are above the centre of the windscreen (last three letters - LEI) and lower rear fuselage just in front of the lower rear cabin door ( full registration - G-XLEI).

You will also have the last three letters on the nose gear doors (see centre windscreen picture) and top of the fin.
