Can anybody help me please?

Having at long last got the Hamilton conversion kit from the A330 to the Aussie KC30 and RAF Voyager, does anybody have photos of the sensors and other lumps and bumps on the RAF machine please? While the conversion is pretty good and includes the USAF type lying boom which I know the RAF does not use, the instructions on placement of the lumps and bumps are not that good. Also where on the A330 wing are the refuelling pods mounted?

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

I took some more photos of ZZ341 at Fairford this year. If there are any 'lumps & bumps' locations you're not sure of I may have a better shot from those pics. Let me know where you need and I'll have a look. For the HDUs, these go where the outboard engines are on the A340 so you could open the holes for these on the bottom wing halves as a guide. If you've already glued the top and bottom together they go in the space between the end of the Outboard Flap and the Aileron and over the third access panel outboard of the outermost Flap Track Fairing.

Although there are a number of common sensor positions on all the airframes, even with such a recent in service type there are variations subject to operational requirements and on going mod status. Obviously there will be variations on the three point to the two point aircraft on the rear fuselage, the pics of 333 in the walk round are v.good example of the 3 pointer.

There are a couple of variations of wing pod rear fairings and 3 variations of pod fin across the fleet.

ZZ341, the aircraft at RIAT this year is the newest delivery but not an RAF core fleet aircraft (despite the markings).

Never say never on getting a boom equipped aircraft! Pick a serial number and stick to it, don't use others as a go by.
