MetroRacing
So I'm back again with a more focused modelling interest this time so hopefully no more stalled builds haha. Right onwards we go. The kit is as the title suggests: I got this as part of a large collection I brought earlier this year. The kit included thus: yes that is a Riko tube of glue lol and a renaissance WRC transkit for Didier Auriol's 1999 car. The reason for the transkit is as follows: However though I would love to build a WRC spec escort, I don't find Auriol's livery exciting and would much prefer either of the Factory one's. So I decided to treat this elderly kit to a shiny new decals sheet courtesy of Shunko Models: So onto the building process. Firstly I am prepping the body shell for painting and decaling whilst I finish another kit. This is how the body looks before priming, with all the parts attached: The Whaletail spoiler is only held on with bluetac to allow the central support to be glued in place. Of interest is that the no.6 car of Francois Delecour has only one sideview mirror whereas Miki Biasion's no.2 car had both mirrors. Can you tell which I'm building haha. I'm building the Monte Carlo 1993 car as I have a few others to build from this event. (Celica and Lancer, if I could find decals to make Sainz's Delta it would complete the set lol) I have also prepared all the parts that will end up white, like the chassis and rollcage etc. Hopefully progress wont be too slow lol TTFN

Windy37
Amazing to think Escort Cosworths are over 20 years old now !! .... I built both Tamiya versions back in the day . Looking forward to your build developing . Gary .
A5h
I have this kit too, its my favourite of all the boxes I own but until I have more experience with the Microsol/set combo Im not touching it. Cosworths are the bee's knees and I hope it comes out really well for ya
MetroRacing
Not really done much over the weekend as I've been away at the seaside lol. I've cleaned up the body shell and started priming all the necessary parts. Hopefully picks tomorrow. Tbh the Michelin scheme would scare me too as there are a lot of complex curves and shapes to lay the decals over, plus the bonnet vents too lol.
MetroRacing
Right onwards and upwards. All the White painting is complete. The chassis now looks like this: And the wheels like this: I drilled out the bolts and the centre of the spare wheel. The body is now at the decaling stage: Still lots to do but I'm cheating a bit by not painting the black plastic that's supposed to be black I'll also be employing my seatbelt cheat trick but more on that later. A5h
It's the pilot sign over the vent which made me quiver. I will do it some day though. Looking good so far all neat and tidy, the drilling of the spare wheel is a nice touch. Edited August 26, 2015 by A5h
MetroRacing
The decals are giving me a bit of a headache. Especially the ones on the bumper corners. Lots of relief cuts and keeping the decals moist is difficult. Getting there though with a quick drop of microsol. Only downside is the odd tiny tear that shows the white of the body. Contemplating giving it a light weathering when it's done. No pics tonight as not much has changed just slowly looking like a rally escort lol

Windy37
When I built my Pilot Escort I remember putting the decal on the bonnet over the vents , then cutting round the vent , removing the cut decal and then blending the vent in with black and white paint to match it in to the rest of the Pilot lettering . Fiddly but it looks good . Also I added a foil heat shield for the side exhaust exit , the drivers seat I positioned more forward and upright and on the Pilot car there was an extra crossbar in the rear rollcage which I added . All these details were done from press photos and my own pictures of the actual car on rallies . No Google images in those days !!!!! Ah the memories , Gary .

MetroRacing
From watching rally vids the Michelin cars ran with rear exit exhausts. Not sure if it's true for all the BRC events but was for the RAC. Those cars were built by Malcolm Wilson's M Sport company before Ford Motorsport disbanded and handed over full responsibility to M Sport.
MetroRacing
Right onto tonight's update. The blue livery is nearly all done so only the team and event sponsors to go: As can be seen there are a few places where the white is showing through due to the relief cuts relieving pieces of decal too lol. The interior is almost only waiting on the seats, whilst the underside is finish save for the skid plates. Onto very exciting and interesting news haha. The interesting news is my next build is Ebbro's 2CV Fourgonnette and I've commenced assembly of the body and will have it painted by the time the Escort is done, therefore only having to focus on the chassis, engine and interior. After that is the exciting news. I will be building a Delta. But not just any Delta... The rally companion of this Escort. That's right the 1993 Monte Carlo Carlos Sainz car. The story of being able to build this version is as follows: I brought the acropolis version being the more common kit of the 2 Hasegawa '93 releases. I was interested in this kit coz it came with a set of Shunko decals to replace the damaged kit ones. Upon receiving the kit I inspected it as per usual and inspected the decals too. Then I noticed the Lineltex decals which is the same main sponser of the 1993 Monte Carlo rally I've become familiar with with this Escort kit. I immediately flipped the decals over to look at the placement guide and behold, there tucked away in the bottom of the guide is the layout for the Monte Carlo version. I then rushed into the stash to see if the wheels in the kit were the same as the '92 Tour de Corse version and again they were (strangely as the acropolis rally is gravel) so all I need is to source some tarmac tyres to fit instead of the gravel ones supplied. Which I think I have taken from a Hasegawa kit and placed into an Italeri/Protar Delta as they fitted the resin wheels I got to go with the '89 San Remo scheme. So super excited right now lol TTFN Edited August 29, 2015 by MetroRacing

A5h
Escort is coming along nicely there! After seeing you start building this and hiroboy having a summer sale I decided to buy some things which included the paints for my escort, yellow and blue set plus lots of alclad stuff.. Now having the paints and wanting to build mine it may push me in that direction very soon. I eagerly await these pics Gary
Hamden
Escort looking good now Waiting impatiently for the Delta NOW Roger
MetroRacing
Thanks. The delta is still exciting me though I am having trouble finding evidence for which exhaust they used for the Monte in 1993. I know that later in the year they used a side exit which isn't replicated by the Hasegawa kit. The search will continue lol. Onto the Escort the body is fully decalling and I'll upload a pic once the clear coat is on. The seats are painted, waiting for them to dry. I was going to apply carbon decals to the backs but in my experience black carbon decals don't show up when viewing the finished model. Again I'll upload pics when I'm going the belts tomorrow. Eta for this model is next weekend lol
MetroRacing
Right tonights progress is thus: Spare wheel finished: Interior mostly done: Now the seatbelts have there own little saga to them so bear with me. I had decided before I commenced this build to use my seat belt cheat trick, as mentioned on many of my posts. Well the trick is to use the decal belts on the seats and use a small piece of material and an etch buckle just to extend the belts back to the rollcage. Simple and effective once the shell is on and the only views are through the windows. However... The Shunko decals don't include decal belts like the original Tamiya kits do, and the kits original decals were in no fit state to be called decals anymore. So I thought I would have to go the whole hog and fit proper seatbelts. Problem solved, or so I thought. All the belt sets I have don't include manufacturer decals (apart from one Simpson set ) Hence much head aching was endured until Hazzah! I glance the Tamiya Evo 5 decals I have lying in my decal workspace. So I've robbed them and will once again be using my seat belt cheat trick I've also decided to ignore the fact that I will then have to source decal seatbelt logo's and use a seat belt set for when I build the Evo Hopefully the next post will be in the next couple of days and I'll be able to show off the clear coated body and the completed interior lol TTFN Edited September 1, 2015 by MetroRacing

MetroRacing
Thanks guys. I'm actually liking putting this kit together, my first cossie and whilst I was I little disheartened with the actual finesse of the kit (seeing as they're sought after and can fetch silly money) I'm fully enjoying the build. The body does let the side down some what with the decals but the interior should distract enough lol Speaking of interior. It's done: The spare wheel straps were very inventive if I do say so. The (ratchet) buckle is actually a spare seatbelt buckle and the ring that joins the 3 straps is a left over piece from a Hasegawa etch set. It's supposed to be the pull ring for a bonnet pin from the Lancer Evo IV (the rear one's aren't used in the kit lol) My seat belt cheat trick is effective if a right pain in fitting the extra material. Next time I'll remember to do them before I fit the top half of the roll cage haha Anyway next update will should be the finished body (not yet clear coated it due to a couple of decals that were raised slightly) TTFN
