bar side
Defo a need for FOD bins and signs Agree about the bins & signs but no one ever takes reference pictures of them! xffw45343tg
Most FOD bins I've seen pictures of are your bog standard council wheelie bit with "FOD" hand painted on them. I think RAFAT's ones are painted red.
bar side
Well lots of bits coming along. More work on the winch tonight but more paint needed before it goes in for good. New panel for the other side of the HAS back wall printing now. Had a go at a small additional section of hardstand for in front of the HAS. May need re painting as its not a great match so far: The pickup has had a clean up & respray & is starting to look more like a USAF truck. Get some corner reflector markings on & it will look better: Have since had to change it to left hand drive!
bar side
HAS back wall in place & looking a bit improved. The pickup looks about the right size with people & will do the vehicle presence job for US scenes that the Landy does for RAF scenes. Now needs the corner tapes that the ground crew kit behind it has. Still thinking of making up the signage for the pickup as a 'follow me' truck

bar side
Have been playing with unfinished jobs this week around payloads. Since I built my Tonka it has been short of a couple of key things. No BOZ pod in the ESCI kit, or Sky Shadow. So the spares from an old Canberra PR9 build came out with an Airfix BOZ pod. Next is a scratched together Sky Shadow. When I built my F-18 I put on Mavericks instead of laser guided bombs - these were included by ESCI in the Tornado GR1 kit. This freed up the bombs to go with the Tonka. The dumb bomb stay on for now as I need to build a LRMTS unit, but they will add some clutter on stands around the HAS. The Phantom didn't miss out - gaining a gun pod (not great but again scratch built from spares) and two spare wing tanks built up to go on the racking. Just need some new trolleys & stands to put 'stuff' on. I have found a downloadable cad designs for 1/50 scale wheelie bins too, but my local 3D printer is not going to be up to the detail. Need to find someone who will print for not too much.
Motley
If you still need any more pictures or anything just give me a message but its looking really good the wheelie bins are just normal bins, most ive seen are yellow but seena few blue. Each HAS will have 3 bins which are normally placed by the door to the annex, you have 1 bin for FOD, 1 bin for hazardous waste and another bin full of water due to LOX being around
RMP2
Still looking like a lot of fun there. Regards spare stores - I have an RAF Phantom gun pod and EMI recce pod spare if theyre any use to you?
bar side
Cheers Motley - looks like my access to 3D printing isn't up to the quality I need. Will have a look for a contract 3D printer I think. Still looking like a lot of fun there. Regards spare stores - I have an RAF Phantom gun pod and EMI recce pod spare if theyre any use to you? Yes it fun - can't take it too seriously! My attempt at a gun pod isn't great so that would be great RMP. Thought you had used the EMI pod on your build?

bar side
Quick pic of the HAS with added Canberra - it was the first 1/48 kit I did after coming back to plastic kit models and hand painted. Its a bit of a beast & needs the extended hard standing to fit on
bar side
Tried an airshow - style line up outside the HAS on some extended hard standing. Didn't go big on detail as it was a bit of a rush: Then got an update email from Corgi - 1/43 Cortina - surely there is an excuse to have one on base: http://www.corgi.co.uk/ford-cortina-mk4-3-0s-ford-south-africa-calypso-green.html?utm_campaign=1332364_Corgi%20-%20New%20in%20Vanguards%20-%20Week%2010%202016&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Hornby%20PLC&utm_content=VA11911&_%24ja=tsid%3A71284&dm_i=2DJZ,SK24,2AOLPO,20YUH,1 Mind, been eyeing up a 1/43 Sherpa for a while.
RMP2
Ah, a Capri without the frock. Why the hell not? Its no Escort, sure, but donuts be donuts.
bar side
My Escort was a mk3 1.3l - no donuts in that! What about a Cologne V6 Granada with a high pitch water pump whine on start up? Sure the 2.8 Capris did that too.
RMP2
Youre talking to a rice burning Honda owner.... a Granada would be something of a step too far for me. How about an SD1? Or how about some Stealth...? Edited June 10, 2016 by RMP2
Okdoky
That would be the squadron hack !!! Would it maybe get a repaint in gloss black ? Love that airshow static line up !!!! Some period crowd barriers to keep the rugrats and planespotters getting too up close and personal with the toys !!!! bar side
Cheers Nige - I forgot to include the Mirage duo & there is a Dutch F-16 on the way. Did seriously think about going Belgium as they appear to have done an exchange with 74 sqn. However I like the Dutch F-16s & I would have had to do some decal bashing to get the right markings Need to get the extended hard standing flat before trying again. The paint was barely dry yesterday and the boards were curling up in the sun. Squadron hack in black? Surely that should be a shove-it (Vauxhall Chevette) Mind you, I saw this: Lovely colour! Maybe a Maxi... RMP - yes SD1! Saw one the other day on a garage forecourt. They haven't aged well! Like the Honda ad would also work with something like a VX220 maybe. B2 looks cool in it though.

bar side
Thanks to RMP the Phantom has a decent gun pod to play with now. Needs decals etc and there were more goodies in the pack to come later. The main focus recently has been a Dutch F-16. It put in an appearance last time the HAS was out. The kit was part painted when it arrived from ebay. A bit of paint stripping and some reassembly followed to get to the sate above. Its now gone together (not many parts in an ESCI F-16 kit!) ok and with some paint on its starting to look the part Needs finishing off & decals & maybe a ladder but its going ok.
RMP2
No messing there with the gun pod. Did I remember to put decals in with it and the other stuff?
bar side
Cheers yes RMP - decals for gun pod and emi pod. The emi pod haves are together so juts need to fabricate a bracket & paint it. That & the target will then need a couple of bespoke cradles & they will sit proudly in the foreground of a HAS shoot soon. Next task at the mo will be decals on the F16. Have enjoyed that one, with very few parts from the dear old ESCI kit. Next build is in tough - may take a week or two to start, but it is RAF....
