Yugoslav IF-86D info sought

I want to build a 1/48 IF-86D in Yugoslav markings, but I am suffering from a lack of info. There used to be an F-86 website that had good info (pics & drawings) of the Yugoslav IF-86D and their recce conversion details, but the site is no longer online. Plus, all the info I had downloaded & construction notes I made were lost in my last computer crash.

I know that Lift Here Decals from Serbia makes 1/48 IF-86D decals, but they show the plane in natural metal (or silver paint?). Were they natural metal or silver paint? Actual planes on display in different museums claim to be IF-86Ds, but they are camouflaged, and some still have the Might Mouse rocket packs which were replaced with the camera pack.

Does anybody have any detailed photos of the camera pack, and proof that the IF-86D was indeed camouflaged? I remember one photo from that old F-86 Sabre site which showed the windows and some bomb racks (for photoflash bombs?).

Hi Larry

I will try to answer some of your q's...but I'm in my office at the moment, I can send you some stuff on PM later on...

As far as I know, they were both NMF and in camo. I believe they were painted in camo later on in their service after some overhauls @(Zmaj, Moma Stanojlović,..).

In the beginning the NMF examples had US stencils, later they were replaced by Serbo/Croat ones..

The example in Belgrade museum is a F-86D - you can see the MM system and no racks..

The one in the grass at The Ljubljana - Brnik airport is a recce variant ..

It is now being restored and moved to the Pivka military history museum...

Scroll down in this link of the restoration, there's a nice photo of the cameras...

IF-86D had 3 K-24 cameras instead of mighty mouse rocket system It could also carry bombs (FAB, SAB)

Here's a site with interesting info on that subject but you'll have to use a translator...

You must be careful of different camo patterns and emblems on the nose...

I'll get back at you later on with the camera system and the badges/emblems...

cheers,

Vasko

Vasko,

Thanks SO MUCH for that info, it was fantastic!

That discussion forum was really interesting, i will have to spend a lot of time going over the entire thread.

Now I have to see if someone will trade me the Lift Here Decals sheet V48LH for 5 of my decal sheets.

I can't buy from that site, as I don't have paypal, and my credit card is maxed. :weep:

Cheers,

Larry
