Stow Maries Fly-In

There was a Fly-In at Stow Maries on Saturday and Sunday with the Snipe, Albatros. Be2c and Bristol Scout expected.

For those who have not heard of the place it was a WW1 airfield and still has many of its original buildings. It is run by the WW1 Aviation Heritage Trust (WAHT) and they hope to have museum and a 'squadron' of WW1 a/c based there by 2018.

No flying was possible on Saturday due to the wind but it there was almost a flat calm on Sunday so hopes were high. However the weather, whilst ideal for flying, was not good for photography, being totally overcast and the light was very poor. There were further problems as the Scout did not fly due to lack of a test pilot as it has not finished its test phase and those a/c that did fly were mostly too high for decent pictures. On inquiring why I was informed that this was a Fly-In, not an air display. It was a low key event as they don't have room for many visitors at present but it was an interesting place to visit and if they fulfil their dreams it could be quite special.
Anyway here are a few pictures
