Rabbit Leader
All, Every now and again I go back to the DK Decals main website and check (in hope) that new decals are on the way. I can happily announce that two new Catalina decals sheets are being produced, however as yet the decal sheet and instruction lay-out are yet to be fully published. Two of Qantas' famous "Double Sunrise" Cats are included on 72020, which having worked for the airline for over 27 years I'm am truly excited.. http://dkdecals.cz/ Thanks Franta - nice one my friend. Cheers .. Dave.
Paolo6691
Some interesting subjects, Is the a website where I can see the quality of the decals better? I like 72011 but I would like to see the quality of the rendition of the nose art before buying Cheers Paolo
tonyot
The nose art on the other sheets has been beautifully done so I`m sure that it will be fine this time too, Cheers Tony
Rabbit Leader
Paolo - I concur with Tony 100%. Although I have not seen the specific sheet in question, the other 1/72 DK decals sheets I have do include perfectly registered nose art. These are state of the art modern decals and (IMO) on par with the best on the market at the moment. I doubt you will be disappointed. Cheers .. Dave. Paolo6691
Hi Thank you all I was asking because a few years ago I bought a tally-ho sheet for "Jungle Queen" and the nose art for that one was quite rough, with not a lot of colours used and harsh demarcations between the colours. Cheers Paolo
AnonymousLL45
They do go on nicely too, just finishing a Salvadorian FG-1 Corsair with them. Really nice

Dave Sheet 72019 RNZAF PBY-5 NZ4012 XX-N, couple of comments regarding accuracy There should be a "Painted" out RAF type Roundel on forward fuselage immediately in front of Forward code letter, Paint most likely NZ Sea Blue Grey or Non Spec Sea Blue for roundel paint over. See Photo link for a better visual http://rnzaf.hobbyvista.com/Images/nz4017.jpg Under wing Roundels could have either RNZAF Pacific Roundel Blue or US Insignia Blue borders to white bars. I have seen a photo (in my Dad's collection) of an RNZAF PBY-5 having its Starboard side US Star/Bar underwing roundel completey over pianted with light grey, prior to application of RNZAF Roundel/Bar. The Fuselage roundel should be slightly more aft...... Regards Alan
dalea
So now what we need is a state of the art PBY-5.
Don McIntyre
So now what we need is a state of the art PBY-5. I've always thought the Academy PBYs were very nice kits. What don't you like about them?
Admiral Puff
The biggest problem with all the Academy kits is that the engine nacelles are too small. The outside diameter is about what the inside diameter should be. Forget the Quickboost replacements - they replicate the error. There are some other problems, particularly with the size, shape and location of the -5/5A blisters and a paucity of interior details, but they don't stand out as badly as the nacelles do. Shame, really, as otherwise the kits are really quite nice
Rabbit Leader
So could one rob nacelles from another (similar radial engined) kit? Any suggestions what would be best - a B-17 perhaps?? Cheers... Dave.
dalea
Even if you could, you'd need to expand the nacelles behind the cowlings proportionately.

Cheers... Dave. DC-3/C-47 nacelles should work, the nacelles were designed/built around the R 1830 engine, the aircraft flew with. When the RNZAF scrapped its Sunderland MR5's, a number of the R 1830 engines were used/maintained as spares for the RNZAF DC 3 fleet. Just need to find a donor kit for a set of nacelles that would fit with the Academy kit. HTH? Regards Alan
Rabbit Leader
Thanks Alan, I've got spare Italeri DC-3 nacelles and engines, left over from a Wright Cyclone conversion. When I get my hands of an elusive Academy PBY-5 kit, I'll see how they go. Cheers.. Dave.

Hi Dave, The one correction you will have to make to the nacelles (always think of this after the fact) is to remove the air intake off the top of nacelle for the DC-3 and add down draft intake under cowel upper lip for the Catalina DC-3 http://www.kiwiaircraftimages.com/pages/palmdak4.html Shot of Intake under nacelle upper lip http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m169/flyernzl/short%20boats/NZ4120e_dn.jpg HTH Alan Edited September 5, 2015 by LDSModeller
Rabbit Leader
I know we are not in the Rumourmongering section, however it would appear that a correction set designed for the Academy kits may well be in the development stage. This will have the corrected nacelles, possible blister corrections and other tit bits that you might find for a certain Fire Bomber conversion. I'm afraid I do not have any further details however if this project proceeds it may well be on the market sometime in 2016. Cheers..
