Canadair Sabre GA.7 - ****COMPLETED****

Recommended Posts

Inching forward on this. Undercarriage doors, ACMI pod, wheels and bang seat painted. Drop tanks on the way.

It's all going very well.

Too well.............

So what's the problem I hear you ask, (there has to be one with 48 hours to go doesn't there!). I was doing some touching up of the EDSG on the starboard wing and behind the cockpit using the Vallejo I sang the praises of in an earlier post. It seems the gods of modelling have cursed me and turned the paint into Dark Sea Grey :( I wasn't too concerned when I applied it at first as it has this odd quality of darkening as it dries.

Only it hasn't this time. AAARRRGGGHHH

It's not as if the 'blemish' was that bad to begin with. Now it looks a LOT worse. So I've put it away and will cogitate/stew/scream overnight and see if I can come up with a remedy. At the moment I am veering from gently scraping or sanding it back to reveal the proper shade underneath, or maybe mock up a tarpaulin or something and hide it. I could always only photograph it from the loser side and ignore the other side, except of course that's the side with the ACMI pod and rail. Curses.

More of my ineptness tomorrow. No photos tonight I'm afraid as I can't face looking at it.

I have retrieved the situation!

I painted the drop tanks with the Vallejo and sure enough it's still too light. Weird. So then what to do? Bury the thing in the garden? No it's raining and I'd get wet. Hammer? Not sure where it is.....

So in desperation I mixed a heckuvalot of black to darken the Vallejo. Ta dah it worked. So I have been able to disguise my faux pas. The patches are a bit on the matt side but I'll sort that out later.

I am a happy bunny once more.

So progress pictures

The offending areas are behind the cockpit in (it'll be covered by the canopy anyway) and either side of the black wing walk demarcation line. Please tell me it's not *that* obvious!

More later.

It's a tail sitter! Now I have to find something heavy to shove down the intake.

I'm pretty much there :)

Undercarriage doors and underwing serials/roundels.

Blimey I'll complete TWO models this year. KUTA next.

So then a suitable weight to make it stand on its nose.

There was this

.......but it wouldn't fit

2E8CAFF2-3DC2-4FD5-9C2E-1A2D525060EF_zps

but then I found this in my Bag of Useful Screws of Diferent Sizes

E3A3F845-C18B-436C-BF57-92A5DA13F12E_zps

I have no idea where it's from or what it's day job was, but it fits and it works. My plan now is to bodge/place/whatever the thing with a dollop of Blutack so that it doesn't rattle around. The FOD cover will then fit over.

More this evening.

That's a relief. Two out of three Group Builds finished this year. Not bad (shame about the quality of my builds though!)

See you over at the RFI :pilot:
