1/72 Airfix civvie Tiger Moth

Recommended Posts

Hi peeps. I'm calling this done apart from the rego decals (from DamoDecs). I'm really stoked with how this turned out. There's a few things that annoy me about it like the twisted top wing :weep::weep::weep: But it's been a learning curve being the first biplane I've ever built plus rigging it as well. Oh and the first ever GB I've actually finished on time :coolio::coolio::coolio: I'm still debating whether to take it up to TSV with me this weekend or wait till I have got the rego decals on but I hope the owner of the real thing likes it. There's be quite a few more of these to be built especially when the civvie Xtradecals sheet turns up. So it's been almost built OOB except for seatbelts. I've also drilled out the exhaust, added rigging and control horns, added the clear fuel gauge on top of the fuel tank and added the copper fuel line from the bottom of the fuel tank to the engine. There were also a few other things that I wanted to add but forgot about. That's ok cos I've got a whole list of things and details to add to my 1/32 build of VH-AMY when I start that the next time home. Hopefully I can get some more pics of her this trip up there. A big thanks to everyone here for their encouragement and help throughout this build especially Max with all his great pics. You lot are alright  Anyways onto the pics :)

That's a really great finish Paul, she looks every bit as pretty as the real thing. I had to smile when you said "built OOB" except for "adding this, drilling out that, including t'other etc etc"......so not really OOB!!!! :) Well done indeed, smashing job and one to be very proud of.

Thanks guys. Really enjoyed the build. I almost started another yesterday but I'll leave that for when I get home from work in 4 weeks. I'm gonna take an Airfix 1/72 Chipmunk with me to tide me over modelling wise till I get home. The next Tiger is gonna be G-ACDC from the Airfix boxing. I probably won't get that finished before the end of the GB though. I also wanna start my 1/32 AMY build as well but I have a few things to finish before that happens :)

  • 2 weeks later...
  • 1 month later...

Just popping in to say that the silver on your finished article (or on my monitor, from your pictures) looks absolutely lovely. I'll come back later to read through the thread properly! I've got 1/32 and 1/72 Tiggies too, but the timing just wasn't good for this GB, alas.

Well done,

bob
