When these guys went out they went loaded for Bear, amazing fire power for a boat only 32' long (9.8m)

The PBR were made from fibreglass the exception being the capping gunwale which was aluminium, hence the wear/chipping shown. At present looking way to prominent but with weathering I hope will tone down.

Thanks for looking in

Started work on the base so I thought I'd share my method with you.

Base made from high density insulation foam, hollowed for keel/stern

P1010316%20Copy_zps5wgo5bld.jpg

With the boat wrapped in cling film I started to apply tile grout

Leaving

P1010326%20Copy_zpsbiysaqg3.jpg

Decide I need a second thin coat for depth and leveling.I also added the former for the bow wave

Leaving

Now to find the acrylic gel and paste

Hope it makes sense, thanks for looking in

Progress on PBR cake, not ready for the oven yet ......

I've built up the bare base with acrylic Paste & gel until I've got the form I want. Couple of extras added to make it more interesting

The river colouring is getting to where I want it

P1010364%20Copy_zpsouvm87ch.jpg

The 'palm' leaf was cut from foil
P1010365%20Copy_zpscgbswvhz.jpg

Started weathering the hull and deck using a Burnt Sienna oil wash to pick up the staining from the local red soil.

P1010366%20Copy_zpsundkdbbr.jpg

As I'd hoped the wash toned down the bare aluminium
P1010367%20Copy_zps2efsfmvr.jpg

P1010369%20Copy_zpswtstc34t.jpg

and an oil drum to brighten up the far corner

P1010368%20Copy_zpsv33gilix.jpg

Very much a work in progress, with more colours to be added to the river. Spray and foam to follow

Thanks for looking in and hope you find it of interest

Getting everything right there mate. Looks nice and muddy Mekong Delta-like.

With regards to your "loaded for bear" remark: the VC must have been chucking a lot of heavy metal at these crews as well to warrant this kind of fire power.

You have nearly convinced me I need to build this ship again, loving the job you are doing :yahoo::thumbsup::yahoo:

I love the smell of fresh napalm just before a couple of beers in the afternoon after torturing plastic for a couple of hours :analintruder:

If Martin Sheen had known that his son Charlie would end up in a series called "Anger management" he would have probably let Marlon Brando live to kill Charlie for him :mental:
