Paolo6691
Hello All I am building one of the new Airfix P-51 and I am close to the painting stage and I ground to halt on what is probably a simple detail. I need to decide how to paint the external sides of the moveable part of the exhaust system, the sides, the bottom will be painted as the rest of the underside of the plane. Thank you Paolo
dogsbody
Do you mean the engine exhaust pipes on the sides of the upper nose or are you referring to the belly scoop for the engine and oil radiators? Chris
Darwinism
I think Paolo means the interior of the radiator duct exit. I don't know the answer for a camouflaged P-51 I'm afraid but Tamiya suggest AS-12, natural bare metal for the inside of the exit duct for their 1/32 model. Paolo6691
Hi All No I mean the external sides of the moveable part of the radiator duct exit, I am building the Airfix kit and I would like to have the radiator flap in the open position, but this will expose the external sides of the flap and I don't know if I should leave them natural metal or paint them as the rest of the underside. The interior of the flap will be natural metal. This pic will probably explain better
Rabbit Leader
My tip would be to paint the scoop exterior the same as the undersurface colour. The interior would be either a shade of your favourite Green Zinc Chromate or a silver / aluminium colour. May I also suggest that if you are building a No. 3 Squadron RAAF machine that you also change / modify the kits prop to an Aeroproducts (uncuffed) propeller. As far as I know, no Aussie Med P-51K / Mustang IV's had the Hamilton Standard prop as supplied in this great little kit. Cheers.. Dave.
Paolo6691
Hello Dave Yes I think I will go that way, it make sense. I have freightdog set of louvres and propellers for it. Cheers Paolo
