That looks like a vast improvement over the Roden kit, but, and christ, I dont want to say this...but the cowling looks off. it look's very parallel sided, and the exhausts are far too raised and proud. Sorry chaps - but it ain't right :(

From our own walkaround:

see what I mean? Not sure how you'd fix this either, well not easily

Cowling from a Roden or Pyro/Lindberg kit? Or wasn't there an aftermarket cowl made for the Roden kit at some stage? Dim memory thereof, but that could just be my dim brain.

What worries me at least as much is the apparant starving cow wing treatment. That may just be the angle of the lighting, but it would be one of the first things I'd check if I ever get my hands on one in the flesh.

I don't recall a resin replacement cowling for the Roden kits tricky 3 piece affair either mate. Certainly an old Pyro/lifelike cowl would do the job.

I think its the lighting making the fabric look "starved cow" ( I like that phrase) as in some pics the other fabric areas look pretty decent.

And shame the canopy isn't in 3 pieces too - but thats what razor saws are for!

Cheers

Actually I've got the reverse problem - 2 Pyro Gladiators without cowlings (and one has no engine either).

Rob Taurus and Squadron do Canopies for the Roden kit. If both Roden and Merit got the opening right then they should fit the Merit kit too. Bags I'm not the first to try it though.

Glad the wings may be better than I thought.

Paul.

Modellers may also find this link useful - although it relates to the recent Airfix Mk1 1/72 kit - it has some useful detail pics and info.

http://www.hyperscale.com/2013/reviews/kits/airfixa02052reviewmd_1.htm

In relation to the Roden /Eduard reboot kit - that model's main issue is the tricky multi-piece cowling, and the wing gun gondolas which are somewhat undersize

Will show you what I mean on both counts - The Roden prop also needs its blades carving out at the root - but there again most injection moulded Watts props do.

Pheon's excellent Gladiator decals are still available too, with full stencils :)

Cheers

Jonners thinking he needs another Glad for Pat Pattle's mount.....

I looked at the pictures, but honestly I cannot see anything going so wrong.

Do you have the kit in hand?

It would be interesting to see some more photos to understand.

IIRC the cowling is multipart and somewhat difficult to get lined up and underwing machine gun gondolas are under scale, which clearly means the model is unbuildable :frantic:

So unbuildable that the five I built were clearly figments of my imagination, (four more reside within the stash monster), :hypnotised:

It is a great model, it just requires the aplication of some basic to intermediate modelling skills/ability, (which I have none of).
