My Three Days at RIAT 2015 (Now with added Statics!)

Recommended Posts

Ufff! The Greeks are pretty good!!!!

Thanks. Team Zeus was certainly eye-catching and put on a great display.

Great pics, thanks for sharing!

Good to see the Irish Air Corps Casa 235 in there..

Dermot

Thanks Dermot. I'm pleased you enjoyed the pictures. The IAC CASA was very pretty and I managed to catch it as it landed on Friday for static display.

So, Day 3 and I'm jealous! i was hoping to get up to RIAT this year, but it's not that easy from South-East France!

I have really enjoyed looking through the shots this evening, the Vulcan shots are simply beautiful! But I have no favourites amongst the collection, they really are all superb. But purely because I've never seen one before, the four engined Japanese aircraft looks pretty cool!

Again, thanks for sharing these!

Thanks for your kind words, Mark. Shame you couldn't have chartered one of your orange jets to fly in (there was a BA A318 there.) I took so many of the Vulcan, and I wasn't sure if the tight crop would work, so I appreciate your feedback.

I'll try to post some shots from the static display later today.

That's it - I promise not to post any more from RIAT 2015!

Thanks for looking.

Spoilsport!

Very cool shots, thanks for sharing. It was a pleasure viewing them.

What a difference a spot of good weather makes. Last time I went to RIAT it was a deluge and we got soaked to the skin!

Glad the weather was kind to everyone this year.

Cheers.

Superb shots A.D., it was great to see the Three Tornados' together.

How do you figure out where to be and when, or is some of it just getting lucky?

Hi Sean

Thanks for your reply. I really enjoyed seeing the Tornados together as well.

Experience from years of attending RIAT has shown where to "park" myself for the fast jet take off shots. To avoid "samey" pictures, I always move to the landing end of the runway on the Sunday.

Thanks Stosh65, I'm pleased you enjoyed them. I'm shocked to admit that I took around 4300 images over the three days, and after a quick review of them, I think that I have posted pictures of most of the flying acts. If I come across any stand-out images, I will post them here.

I can remember my late Dad telling me off after exposing an entire 36 shot film on the RAF Police Dog Demonstration Team at the Royal Tournament in the mid-1970s (when he had nipped to the toilet). Goodness knows what he would think now in the mad world of digital imagery and high-capacity memory cards!!

Please teach me how to get shots like that :worthy: seriously good shots there though, I get your point about panning, I tried out my Nikon D3100 for the first time at Fairford, some good shots obtained but panning was very hard.

Thanks very much Head in the clouds, I'm pleased you liked my RIAT shots. Drop me a PM if you want to continue the conversation off line.

Static display shots to follow.....

To paraphrase Princess Leia, "aren't you a bit short to be a PC-9 pilot?" - looks like a 1/72 pilot in a 1/48 plane, lol
