So we dont need a photo bucket thingy with the new forum??

Course you do Dave. It's the URL (location of the photo online) you paste into the posting window, not the photo itself.

Cheers for the info Mike and looking forward to the brave new world!

Now I just have to arrange for the move, (have been living out of boxes for the last 4 weeks, just waiting), to Dar-es-Salaam to happen on the same day.

Just out of interest, (pregnant pause), as it is unlikely to be that well organised and happen then, (africa... ), could it be changed to suit the move?

Just a thought...

Christian, about to get a Mike :fight: in africa

Tense editing!

Mike.

Just to clarify something.

You said that the "insert pic" icon will not be present on the new lay out.

Do we just copy and paste the URL of the pic we wish to post?

Simon.

I'm primarily a mobile user to access the site. Will there be much change?

That's exactly it. I prefer to also centre my pics, but that's just my foible ;)

The new process will be:

  • Insert URL where you want it into post by CTRL+V or right-click>Paste
  • Move on & watch the software convert it to a picture
  • Ignore the de-pic the URL option
  • Smile at the improved functionality

The way your forum experience will look varies depending on what your device is capable of displaying. It scales up or down, depending on what you're using to view it, as it's a bit clever :) There is also supposed to be more functionality exposed to mobile users, so if anything it should be better once you're used to what it can do. My experience of the new site on mobile platforms was just as good as on my PC, which is nice

Just as a precaution, if you are around on the Wednesday 14th when the upgrade is planned, it might be as well to avoid typing out any long and convoluted posts without taking a backup, just in case the forums go down when you're halfway through. It is being done by Invision, who are in America (Virginia), so should be around 5 hours behind us and work office hours. That means that the earliest we can expect an upgrade is 2pm, so there will be a lot of chatter in the morning, and some of that could be lost if we have to restore from a backup. Just make sure you back up anything important you're going to post folks - we won't be held responsible if you are just finishing off a 300 line kit inventory to sell and everything goes offline while you're posting it. There'd be nothing we could do anyway, sadly

Be aware. Anything posted on the 14th might not make the cut. :)
