Fernando
TMK, someone used an 1/72 an Airfix Scout kit and scratchbuilt it into a Wasp: http://modelingmadness.com/review/viet/fordhamwasp.htm I would have bet that there was a Frog one, but it looks like I would have lost. In 1/48, a Fujimi: http://modelingmadness.com/scott/viet/wasppreview.htm Fernando
tempestfan
No Frog, only option in 1/72 to my knowledge is converting an Airfix Scout if it has to be long run injected. (Probably) Alan Hall covered this in Ax Mag, possibly more than once, and he may have redone that conversion for SAM. I'd bet that someone, someplace, sometime must have made a resin kit, but I'm quite certain there was a mainly white metal conversion in the mid 80s - C Scale, possibly ? Or PP Aeroparts ? dwh
The only Injection moulded kit was indeed the Fujimi 1/48 kit, C Scale did do a wasp conversion, sometimes come up on ebay but for silly money. There was an article in both Airfix and SAM done by Alan W Hall. Also I believe Freightdog Models are working on a Resin kit of the Wasp (seen at Southern Expo) but this seens to have gone very quiet.
moaning dolphin
I think Airwaves also did a conversion but don't think it was that great. I thought that Freightdog were doing one but heard nowt. Fujimi kit is quite garbage though. Bob
Dave Fleming
The later Airwaves kit was quite superb albeit expensive - resin mainly, I think it retailled about £30. I remember Andrew Deeley enthusiastically showing it to me when I was in ED Models around about 2001/2-ish. The C Scale one was a bit cruder and white metal. Airwaves may have retailled a version of that earlier.

Rodders154
I have the C scale wasp conversion (and 2 of the c scale scout with the as11 missiles) I made an offer on a c scale kit on ebay as nobody was interested in the has5 seaking and the chaps aid did I want any more I said yes and got those kits +2 mk4 seakings and 2 lynx for £25 bargain or wot!! once cleaned up the c scale conversion is very good. Come on Colin make my stash worthless I want you too by bringing out the freight dog kit. Rodders
Vicarage Vee
The Alan W Hall Airfix Magazine conversion is also in a 1979 conversions compilation. Just got my collected Wasp/Scout references down from the loft... tempted to start it now. The Airwaves conversion was a 'soon to be re-released' for ages on the Hannants website years back, but it didn't reappear, and looking at the second hand prices for what was essentially some tubes, some wheels and the flotation gear I concluded that it would be more fun to scratch it together. I didn't realise that it had been re-done in resin, that looks to be way more comprehensive than the white metal one? Or is my memory plying tricks? Best get on with it to prompt a new kit then. 825
Although it is a bit of good old fashioned kit bashing, I have two Airfix Scouts sitting there to be converted. The body and engine upgrade I am OK with but its the undercarriage and the flotation gear that keeps me from starting. The Scout goes back to the mid 60's. I seem to recall (and I may be wrong) making one during the '66 World Cup while on holiday at my Uncle's. Being Scots we were less enthusiastic about the football. My other memory is that the original casting was for a Britsh Army version with skids and a Saudi version with a wheeled undercarriage. (Again I may be wrong). The two Scouts I have are in the later clear plastic box on card packaging and only have skids. If I could get some undercarriage parts I could probably knock up the flotation bags from Mulliput. Perhaps I need to be braver.
tempestfan
My other memory is that the original casting was for a Britsh Army version with skids and a Saudi version with a wheeled undercarriage. WC '66 sounds plausible. The kit always had a skidded Jordanian Police version as second option, and the instructions said to use the stretcher blisters for this but not the Army version - while the Roy Cross art showed them to be fitted to it, as well. Uncle Dick
Uncle Dick's Tip - wait for Mr AIRFIX to do a 1/72 jobbie using their LIDAR thingie! Should not have to wait longer than say 2 years! Save all the fuss monkeying about with conversions... Edited July 8, 2015 by Uncle Dick

Selwyn
Looks like its a hack up and scratchbuild of the scout then! Unless Freightdog produce the goods? Selwyn
Paul Bradley
Selwyn - clearly you need to take on the conversion. That will guarantee Freightdog will release it and save us all the bother..... ;0)
canberraman
Back in 2012 I did a conversion of the Airfix Scout using the C Scale Wasp set which had been re-released under the Whirlybirds banner. I can't say it was the easiest conversion I've ever attempted and some of the parts are not very well defined, but I was reasonably happy with the results. Roll on the Freightdog version so I can have another go! Mark
