Flankerman
That last one is interesting..... I took this photo at the State Aviation Museum at Zhulany, Kiev in 2010...... It is a trainer 'converted' to look like a Yak-9 - but it has the same markings as the Amodel Yak-18 kit. Interesting........ Ken
ShadowRaider
>> it has the same markings as the Amodel Yak-18 kit. These markings are spurious. A-Model's boxart represents a Yak-18P that was used in a 1973 Soviet film "Only Old Men Are Going to Battle" (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Only_Old_Men_Are_Going_to_Battle) to act as La-5 fighter. This particular film is very well known in Russia; I surmise this is why A-Model decided to prodcude a kit with appropriate markings. Flankerman
Thanks for the info ShadowRaider.......... I wonder if the Yak-18P markings for the film were based on a 'real' aircraft - and that is what the Zhulaniy 'Yak-9' is supposed to replicate?? I.E. - there was a real wartime Yak-9 with those markings and the film used a Yak-18P to replicate it (turning it into an La-5 in the process) ?? Intriguing......
