Just a placemarker for now. :sorry:

Blitzed%20-%2001_zpsvw4dmqah.jpg

First project once I'm underway will be to replace the ghastly clear plastic inner ladder section on the fire-engine with something a little more realistic.....I suspect some other bits and pieces will need replacing while I'm at it.

I'm investigating the world of model-railway dioramas at the moment, looking for some suitably tall frontages, preferably in plastic, so that I can remodel them.

The plan is to depict the first moments after the 'All-Clear', with policemen and ARP wardens guiding civilians (emerging from an air-raid shelter or perhaps an underground station) through the rubble, while NFS firemen continue to damp down the smouldering ruins.

I'm looking for a suitable 1/76 plastic double decker bus (or tram at a pinch) to partially disassemble, flip on it's side and partially bury in the rubble.

I still need to source some decals with white lettering for the remodelled NFS vehicles.

Any help from fellow modellers with experience in these areas would be massively appreciated.

PS - I feel a pleading e-mail to Dan Taylor is in the offing!

Going to watch this one as one, it isn't another airplane and two, dioramas are cool (think Dr. Who said that, or maybe he was talking about a hat).

As for a double decker. Not sure which version was in the Blitz but might find something here.

I'm off to the opticians to collect various things tomorrow.....Hopefully be able to make some actual progress once I can see what I'm doing!

I find myself in the unusual position of being very short on reference materiel for this project, so any links or advice are greatly appreciated. :coolio:

My camera's at RIAT with a mate right now, so I can't even take proper photos of the various bits I've accumulated.

It appears that an AEC Regent III RT double decker bus might be the best bet.....Kits seem to be readily available and the type had just started entering service at the outbreak of war.

Getting it to look like this:

May be quite challenging! :banghead:

Cheers.....Definitie 'deep-dish diorama' territory that first one! ;)

Smouldering is as much as I would dream of attempting. :coolio:

You can actually make remarkably convincing flames with lighting, a fan and some silk:

But not in 1/76 scale! :P

This one might be a bit easier.

Also, personally, I would avoid trying to model fires. Very hard to get convincing. Explosions can be done with lights added and seen some interesting flame thrower effects but straight fires are hard.

Maybe just some smoke still smouldering?

For fire you could try some small very thin yellow /orange platic tubes with some form of compressed air blowing through . A mini version of that used at some sporting /music events . For smoke ,howabout one of those humidifiers that send up a mist

Edit ,i see you have the ideafrom previous post

The building in the picture is one of the Airfix resin pieces and is there for 'display purposes only'.....I'm planning on using something a little taller for the actual base. :coolio:

Semi-successful visit to the optician, it's going to be another week before I'm fully equipped, but I should be able to get started at least. :yahoo:

I've been poring over Dan Taylor's site and have found a few items that will be very useful:

Wartime wallpaper in 1/76 rolls.....Who's have thunk it? ;)

For a number of reasons, all too tedious to elucidate, I'm going to have to draw the blinds on this one for the time being.....However I'll be [Censored] if I don't build something for this GB. So I'll be starting a new thread very shortly. :sorry:

Oh I'm definitely doing this one at some point.....It has a certain sentimental value for me. :coolio:

I'm racking my brains trying to come up with a different (non-wingy, I'm dreadful at those) subject.....I've got a Beaverette, but it's a Mk.III so too late for BoB.
