Might as well join in - Hasegawa Hurricane Mk.1

Recommended Posts

Pulled this out of the stash as a quick build after (nearly) completing the Zoukei-Mura P-51D.

Build will be the basic kit with Aires/Eduard cockpit, Aviaeology decals, Pavla conopy, Quickboost exhaust & Eduard Masks.

Pics will be iPhone 6 I'm afraid.

Finally managed to get started on this. I've decided against using the Aires cockpit detail set as I reckon the Eduard Zoom set has everything I need and I wanted a quick build on this too :ninja:

Cockpit is all prepared and ready for paint. Instrument panel raised details removed ready for the etch;

Undercarriage legs assembled and primed;

Undercarriage bay ejector pin marks filled/sanded (was thinking of the Aires set for this too, but again I decided against it);

Quite enjoying this kit so far :thumbsup2:

Nice looking kit Marty, it was a toss up, if I was going to get this one or the airfix kit. Looks very nice, will be following this one.

I'd go for this one Ozzy, I think the detail is slightly more refined than the Airfix kit (wait for the abuse I'll get saying that from the Airfix diehards..!)

Thanks Marty, I will have to give it a go.

The BR 86 built into a very nice kit, thanks again.

Small update.

Cockpit completed and ready to button up the fuselage. Enjoying this build, and going quite quickly (for me :ninja: )

Undercarriage legs detailed with brake lines. Just need detail painting and lines trimming. Nice though :)

That's all for now, more to follow soon (I hope)

Ah, Another Hasegawa Hurricane. Nice, very nice. I like all the goodies. Good start and painting on the cockpit as well.

Although I am not sure if the Hurricane Mk. I already flew with the fishtail exhausts during the BoB. I think that you should research that.

Cheers,

Thanks for the heads up - will look into that point before I commit, although they're usually the last thing I install so I've plenty of time :)

Small update, but quite a bit of progress :)

Wings glued together without issue but the machine gun cover inserts aren't a particularly good fit. Nothing a little superglue, Mr Surfacer and sanding can't resolve though.

The pic looks worse than it is but I'm sure it'll all look good under a coat of primer.

Onto the wing tip nav lights and these had bulbs added using a small round burr, painted with red and blue, then superglued in place and sanded/polished.

The landing lights have been painted gloss black then Alclad Chrome ready for installation. The clear covers have been dipped in Klear prior to being superglued/sanded/polished in place later this week.

Thoroughly enjoying this build :)

Time for an update. Managed to get it ready for paint without too much trouble. Lots of polishing the landing light covers to blend them into the wings but happy with the outcome. Crappy pics though, so apologies for the following;

Primer on and not too many issues to resolve;

Coat of Mr Color Sky on the undersides;

This looks a bit grey rather than green but it's just the photo playing tricks..!

Onto the wheels and undercarriage;

Quite pleased with everything so far :)

Decided against using the Pavla Vacform Canopy on account of it being cr#p..! Badly formed and very grainy appearance. So glad I bought two now :weep:

The Sky has been masked in prep for the top colours, so fingers crossed I'll be getting at least one colour on tonight :thumbsup:

Quick update.

The undersides have been masked and the RAF Dark Earth has been airbrushed on. Still need to do some panel highlights (or post shading) so will post a pic when that's done.

The cockpit coaming has been sprayed black in preparation for the gun sight, and the area behind the seat cleaned up and sprayed interior green.

I ended up buying further replacement exhausts from Quickboost for the BoB Mk.1. These are for the Airfix kit and I didn't see why until I had them in my hands..! The recess in the Hasegawa kit means they are too short in width to fit correctly, so out with the saw and I cut a section from the original kit part and super-glued it in place to the QB part. It's a bit of a rough join but the part that's visible (at the front) cleans up nicely. Worth the extra effort IMHO as the QB parts are nicely detailed with very thin pipes.

The pic shows the differences and the resulting amalgamation of the two parts;

That's all for now - more soon :thumbsup:
