PlaStix
Good start Rob. I agree with Jamie - painting the silver first in preparation for chipping seems like a very good idea. Nice job so far.
jrlx
TBH there are so many hurricanes I would like to build I could go nuts with the GB! I know what you mean, Rob... I have several boxings of some aircraft types in my stash already... 4 Phantoms (plus the 3 I'm building right now), 4 FW 190s, 2 Spits, 3 Bf 109s, 3 F-15s, ... I could go on but you get the idea. And I still would like to add a few more of each... That's why I decided to start participating in GBs, so that I can start reducing the backlog. Cheers Jaime
rob85
And we all benefit from That Jamie! After this GB I was thinking of doing three mozzie's together but I will see how I feel! Should blow a hole in a stash that is being frowned at by the wife (not helped by her nearly being knocked out by thumper and her escort from the bbmf falling out of the cupboard this morning...). Cheers stix, I hope it pays off... I'm ripping stew off really as he did it to great effect on his sextuple of spit's! Rob
jrlx
Blowing holes in the stash is always a good thing, Rob you'll find that building multiples of the same or similar kits is quite efficient. This year I'd still like to participate in the Tiger Moth and the Vietnam GBs. Let's see how it goes in the ones I'm participating now. nick32
Cheers Rob, have no fear, the dog will be included. I might have him chasing a cat across the dispersal yard, just as a cheeky little extra. Nick

The roundels LOOK right for the hurricanes too

rob85
Well I only follow on the footsteps of the best giants and all that stew... I think I will order the spitfire set tonight. Edited July 15, 2015 by rob85
rob85
Hello all! So bit of progress tonight, tiny bit of sanding on seams and then repaint the flat aluminium. Also added the last bit of the lower fuselage. I also added aluminium to the leading edge further along as per troys comment... yes I should fill and sand the rear of the wing behind the gun panels, but I will have enough of that with the next two so sorry chaps. Next up was the filters etc... I decided to go off piste with this as i would worry the bits that slot in wouldn't match up So made the rear section and glued to the fuselage while still flexible Then added the front section. Hmmmm. ... bugger needs a bit of filler but ok. Also added that really stupid bit in the wheel well!! Finally added the tail plain So I will add some maskol next and for the chipping and then last little bits of filling and a touch of sanding..... then paint!! Cheers chaps! Oh and I ordered the spitfire set from hannants here: http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X72221 So will be doing two spitfires after this as one came in my bbmf set😄 Cheers all Rob

rob85
Hi again, So bit of paint work done.... But first I have put on some maskol last night. I did top and bottom, the uppers I want chipped at the undersides were just a bit of fun and will be painted over. So undersides were painted tamiya sky xf-21, maybe a little green for my liking? And then with the maskol removed. ... Bit over the top so painted over the most of it apart from the bits near the front cowling. I then did a thinned coat using water of Hu 29 dark brown Then a second coat. So i'm of to eat some dairy milk... tomorrow will be DG Hu 30. I may then start looking at the two conversions! ! Scary stuff. Rob
Cookenbacher
That's some quick quality work Rob, it's looking good. I'm building my 'non-conversion' build first too!
rob85
I think it's a cunning plan... A bit like this https://youtu.be/pKRxX3s3JlM The kit is great but complicated and has fit issues if you don't pay attention to it, something I can be prone to. Building it simply oob I think has really helped me understand the kit, this should really help when converting it. Cheers as ever cookie Rob P.s. I also need to add the cannon pods... better not forget that! Should have added before paint really! Must make a jobs list by priority or something on the next one Edited July 18, 2015 by rob85

Fatboydim
Your Hurricane is coming along very nicely Rob. Your doing really well with some good photos of your progress. Just one word of advice, your spot on about the dairy milk, just make sure it's a big one (400grams), and keep it in the fridge. Joe
philp
OK, had never heard of cannon armed Hurricanes in the BoB so thanks for the increase in my knowledge (and the 4 x 20mm Spit V in Malta). Will follow along and see how these turn out. Really hope Airfix does a new metal winged Hurri but watching a conversion will be good.
rob85
Cheers Philp, its not often i increase the knowledge of people on this forum... I am more of a leech. But very happy that this is not the case here! You are not the only one hoping the release a metal wing mki... So am I! Preferably before I start my conversion! Oh and if they could re tool the mkii over the next week so a) it will mate with a mki fuselage b ) it has better panel lines and is more accurate... That would be ace! Oh well.... I have a trip to centre parks in the week with all of the extended family, which is nice, but this may take me away from the build, which is annoying. But no fridge as the wife foolishly does not agree with this practice, i also had to share(!) (Like when I have a glass of wine and she says 'oooo can I have one?' 'No! It's mine' is not the looked for response).Rob P.s. my transfer sheet arrived from hannants... I can see how buying these could get addictive, they are a thing of beauty. Also turning up in the post was a Hase ki-84 actually all the way from Japan! Totally unrelated but very excited about my first Japanese AC in the stash.... CedB
"'No! It's mine' is not the looked for response." Correct, as you know. Just in case here's the 'Things Not To Say To Your Wife' Song. I watch it occasionally just to keep me out of (more) trouble
