Lovely! One for my ever (and ever) growing collection of Spitfire kits.

More than likely the AZ mk IX kit with the floatplane sprue they had from the floatplane Vb. I'll still have a couple tho - too many nice spares in the AZ IX anyway!

There is no such thing as a Mk.IXb. The cannon fairing looks (as it should) like one from a later F Mk.IX (i.e. a C wing). Some of these were produced without the outer stub, and photos show this lacking from MJ892. This may be what is causing confusion.

Spitfire the History does call this aircraft an LF Mk.IXB, which is a mish-mash of terms. The IXB was front-line slang for an LF Mk.IX, and had nothing to do with the wing. The cannon was mounted differently in the b wing with different bulges.

Why should Brengun have adopted another company's toolings? I'm afraid that I can't tell from looking at it.

Their Messerspit and Mk Vb Floatfire were both based on AZ mk Vb kits - I have them both in the stash.
