1/48 - Grumman F-14A/B & D Tomcat by AvantGarde Model Kits - schemes+sprues+box art+decals - F-14D release Autumn 2018

Recommended Posts

I agree with Giorgio... Both kits will have their strong points.

In my case it won't be "or.., or...", but "and..., and..."  :)

Uhhm

And what if Tamiya releases an F-14D model even before the AMK kit.

New competition showing as apparently there might be a Tamiya F-14D coming. Could it be a blow for the AMK project as far as sales expectations are concerned?

.. And I am a 1/72nd guy but also a Tomcat addict, especially Ds... (and I already have a 1/48th Hasegawa F-14D in my stash - I might end up with 3 different F-14Ds)

Cheers

Eric B.

Price will be a consideration. The Tamiya kit retails for $115, but you can find it for $80 - $95 online. The AMK kit will retail for around $70, but unlike the Tamiya kit has a massive amount of weapons trees and positionable wings with dropped slats and flaps. You'll need aftermarket intervention for the Tamiya kit if you want fully extended wings or more exotic ordinance loadouts.

I have an Eduard Danger Zone boxing of Hobby Boss's F-14A under construction, so I'll hold off on buying another F-14A for now and I preordered AMK's F-14D on IndieGoGo for $65 with free shipping.

Looking forward to receiving the kit when it's ready.

Looks pretty good for a distance - I think I can see some of that engineering prowess that we've come to expect from Sio in that wing mechanism.  Can't wait to get my grubby mitts on one :Tasty:

Today, it's black primer from my 262 build, but who knows?

Rather have that than the Horseguards dust from today. Gets everywhere...

This looks a great kit.

Between this and Tamiya's example, I may have to re-mortgage the house!

It's darn impressive. They seem to have managed to find a whole new level of detail even when compared to their MiG-31. If it builds as well at the MiG-31 then this will be a stonking kit. Well, I have every reason to hope it is, I somehow pre-ordered three...

That's the kind of detail that makes this old Tomcat fan wishing the kit was available today !
