It's on their fan club page, not the companies facebook page, so I can't see the announcement either.

I wonder if the Sio Models branding will be on this re-release like on the new boxings of the Foxhound kits?

 

 

Either way, I filled my 1/48 F-14D tank up when Tamiya had a sale at the Chino Air Show.

Had to check my boxing to remind myself of the decal options and yes the new boxart scheme is not there. So chances are there will be new decals but there is no mention of it in their announcement 🤔

Nice box art but I won't buy it, I just begin the first build from one of two AMK's Tomcat D cos I have two boxes of this excellent model but I won't buy an other D version. Any rumour if AMK is working on a new model?

according to Sio the change is only for the box art and decals ! some people like it some don't i do prefer this one rather then the almost perfect tamiya which is great kit of course! and i did corrected the back shape with that depression only by put the plastic under the running hot water ant the angle of the refuelling probe ! quinta studio cockpit decals and res kit exhaust resin nozzle

The GBU-31 2000lb JDAM entered service on the F-14B in 2002 and I think a little later that year on the D. IIRC VF-143 & VF-11 used it during Operation Anaconda and that was it's first use on the F-14. I know the F-14D had the capability in time for Operation Iraqi Freedom.

You’re quite right Werner, wouldn’t be correct for the VF-31 markings shown on the box. There is an image  of that jet carrying a pair (possibly 4) of MK.84s around 1997/8. Can’t find it now!

 

Stephen is correct in saying JDAM only became operational in March 2002 when VF-11 dropped a single weapon over Afghanistan. VF-2 was the first D equipped squadron to get JDAM in early 2003. All B/D squadrons were equipped but A equipped squadrons weren’t.
