1/8 Aston Martin DBR1

Recommended Posts

Many thanks Simon.

I've now made the water pipe for the cylinder head - two of them cast - one for the other engine.

I've also made the Dynamo - no alternator back then...

(Wiring still to add.)

Lower drive pulley also cast and fitted.

Weber carbs and manifolds next.

Roy.

I'm always following Roy, I just don't say much.

Really splendid job on the engines.

This is a beautiful car, the shape of the body is stunning. I'm really looking forward to see your 1/8 reproduction.

Keep up the superb work

Best Regards

Keith.

I've made a short manifold for the stand-alone engine as there's no need to make it any bigger.

I make my exhaust manifolds from old microphone cable with the core removed, and brass rod inside.

The weld lines are added using a hobby stained glass beading pen, and then all is painted afterwards.

I spent quite a while adding the small nuts to the mounting flange but once fitted they're hidden... !

A few decals are now added and also some wiring.

Carbs and linkages next.

I won't be fitting an exhaust manifold to the 'car' engine yet, as it will have to be made to fit inside the engine bay and through the bulkhead wall.

Roy.

Another update...

I've painted the manifold satin black/grey and added a few decals.

There's now also a short piece of firewall to the stand-alone engine for the twin coils and brake reservoir to sit on - eventually.

I ditched my original Webers as the mould had been over used.

A new mould - and far better carbs.

These are now fitted, awaiting fuel lines and linkages.

Still lots to do.

Roy.

Nice work Roy and a good shout on the thicker HT leads, IMHO. Carb velocity stacks look good too! Did you use a brake pipe flaring tool?

So many good threads here at the moment I never have time to digest them all. Off to read Codgers epic build!

Want a giggle...?

Bootlace ferrules from an electrical co. cut short, then moulded and cast in resin.

Roy.

Excellent stuff! I spent far too long making a flaring tool to do this on alloy tube in the lathe...yours look identical - grrr! :)

Hi Roy,

The engines are coming on very nicely and the new casting of the Webers is very sharp indeed.

All of the details are really coming together now on the stand alone engine.

Best regards

Keith.

There are no more superlatives in the English language to hurl at you for the design and execution of your work Roy.

But I will tell you (and hope encourage you) that the lump you've now got would be 'other-worldly' under the hood of a Sedanca or Ambassador. True 'gentleman's express'. And I'm positive it would fit. Arranging its gearbox and a probable new driveshaft is cake. A couple of linkages through the firewall, and hoses for fuel and water and Bob's your uncle.

Webers in a Roller...Please make my dream a reality. :hobbyhorse::winkgrin:
