Hi folks,a return to a past question for the codes worn by Spitfire X4275 ZD-? of 222 squadron which crashed near Rochester in

September 1940 after an engagement over the channel also the codes of Spitfire P9458 of 72 squadron lost in September 1940.

apologies as I have asked before but both pilot,s were local to me and I thought I,d have one more try with the BoB build coming

up, failing that does anyone Know of any other BoB aircraft with connections to North east born pilot,s?

regards Steve.

If you can let me have the pilots' names, I can have a look in the ORBs, during a future visit to Kew, and see what other serial nos they might have flown; in the thick of the battle, it was rare for pilots to have their own aircraft.

Thank you Edgar.Spitfire X4275 was flown on the day by Sgt Sydney Baxter and P9458 by F/O Oswald Pigg both natives of Durham.

Hi folks, interesting snippet regarding Cosfords Spitfire k9942,it was flown by "Ossie" Pigg before and during the BoB, and flown by J Nicholson V.C

many times in the same period wish I had known this a few year,s back when I stood in front of her at the museum.Nicholson,s last flight in her was

6th May 1940 Presumably he then went straight to 249 sqn and his date with destiny.

Sorry, Steve, as so often the ORBs make no mention of individual codes; not much help, I realise, but Baxter also flew L1031, K9939, P9324, P9325, P9323, P9397, & P9364 between the 6-7-40 & 11-9-40, and Pigg flew P9498, P9438, P9929, P9338, P9927, P9435 & P9444 between 2-7-40 & 1-9-40.
