Radpoe Spitfire
Does anyone have any information, ie plans and colour scheme for the above aircraft please? What I do know of it, is that it was built as a commission for Cyril Nicholson, who was the owner of the Firbeck Hall country club and aerodrome in South Yorkshire. I believe it had a longer fuselage than the earlier Comets, plus other differences.Originally to be called Firbeck, the name was changed to Boomerang (as they always come back) after it was suggested by a guest at the club. Sadly it didn't live up to its name and crashed. If you can help, please do. Regards Adrian
Graham Boak
It was silver with blue trim - possibly two shades of blue. There's at least one photo available via Google. However, I didn't know that it was any different from the others, at least in any important way.
Fastcat
Hi Adrian, Pretty certain it was silver overall with trim in two shades of blue. Peter Lewis describes it as Peacock Blue, Ultramarine and silver. Fair number of monochrome pics on the web. I can't find any reference to a change in fuselage length, David Ogilvy in his DH88 book giving them a common length of 29' - 1". Major difference in F-ANPZ, bought by France was the use of variable pitch de Havilland - Hamilton props, but -DEF retained the Ratier unit of the original DH 88s. Can't see why it would be referred to as a "super Comet". Dave
Radpoe Spitfire
Graham and Dave. Thank you both for your replies, I thought I'd read a reference to a difference in length and that of super comet - it's possible the latter was down to journalistic licence. But regards too colour scheme and reference to pictures, that's a good help so far. Regards adrian
