Black Knight
Itsmee again. I'm thinking of getting a set of Montex masks for a 1/24 aeroplane. Have any of you used Montex masks, especially for national markings and codes? Any words of wisdom to impart or share? tia Fred
Procopius
I've used their cockpit masks on several (AZ P-40E, 2 x Special Hobby P-40L) kits, but wasn't blown away. I suspect they'd be better on flatter surfaces.
Stew Dapple
James is currently using some for the markings on his French Spitfire You might want to follow it and see what he thinks of them; I don't have any personal experience of them so I am doing the same Cheers, Stew

tank152
Yes I've used them on my ZM Ta-152 I've a WIP thread if you want to take a look at the results. They can be tricky to position due to the tackiness, the best way I've found to get round this is to wet them before applying them, you can then slide them around to position them better. Once in position dab them with some kitchen paper to dry them off and then you're ready to go. When spraying use mist coats to build up the colour slowly, you don't want wet coats or you will flood the masks. One of the biggest problems with Montex masks is that unlike Mal's Miracle Masks you don't get any information in how to use/apply them. If you decide to invest in some I'd be more than happy to scan his instructions and e-mail them to you so that you have some idea. Once you have used them you won't want to go back to using decals. kwaterous
I've got a set for the big revell Beaufighter. Canopy one don't seem to be super flexible, but they do fit quite well. I assume the ones for the rest of the plane will behave similarly. Nice thing about Montex is that the give you inside and outside canopy masks. That in itself is a valid tip; it suggests they are straight forward and simple to use I've got a set for the big revell Beaufighter. 06/24
I used them on a spitfire and was very disappointed, the problems could of course be down to the numpty using them, but they weren't my happiest experience. I doubt I'll use them again where an alternative exists.
