Black Knight
Have you seen this 1/48 set? A new Hurricane Albion Tanker Bedford MWD Crew set for £30, or less if you're a club member A quick reckoning by me adds the individual kits up to £54 [17 + 11 + 11 + 15], never mind the paints/glue/brush I'm sorely tempted but I don't get my pocket money till next Tuesday. Silver Fox
Not a surprise to me, I've been watching this one on the Airfix website for months expecting the price to rise but it seems to be a genuine bargain. .
JimHead23
I was exactly the same as Silver Fox. I preordered two sets a few months ago fully expecting Airfix to postpone the issue or at least change the price and yesterday they moved the release date back from this month to December. However today I received an e-mail telling me my order was being processed and the payment has been taken. With my members discount and free postage I am basically getting two for one on the individual prices of the models as I am buying two sets. Bargain! warreni
Yeah, and another 30 pounds to send it to me whereas a smaller place only charges you a fifth of that price! Ripoff merchants.
JimHead23
Are they really as steep as that sending abroad? I never realised. I guess we are quite lucky living here with the post. I do a lot of posting overseas and, providing the weight keeps below 2kg it is quite reasonable so it's hard to understand why they choose to be so expensive. Paul Bradley
Oh, yes - Airfix's overseas postage rates are extortionate. It is cheaper, both for the kit and postage, to order from Hannants. Absolutely no reason for anyone overseas to order from Airfix UK...... I expect that, for those of us in the US, they expect us to use Airfix USA, and the prices are pretty good - but we likely won't see this set, for example, until October/November. We just got notified that the Defiant is now available, which will give you an idea of how long we generally have to wait for their new releases to arrive on these shores. The Swift was a notable exception!.

It definitely pays to wait until several items you want are in stock then order them all at the same time to get free shipping. they use DHL courier as well so it is really quick. Always assuming you can afford to spend £100 in one go. There are many, many suppliers of Airfix who will ship abroad, even if we don't always advertise the fact. An email inquiry can often bear fruit.
noelh
Yes Airfix postage can be steep for 'overseas' buyers but here in Ireland we have a nice way around it. We have service called Parcel Motel where mail is collected and delivered to a collection point in a places like local petrol stations. It has the advantage of hiding big parcels from the missus. But another brilliant feature that takes advantage of free or cheaper postage and packing for UK customers by providing an accommodation address in the UK, Northern Ireland in fact. They never make it there, the parcel is intercepted somewhere and a day or two later you go to the collection point and type in your code and a door opens revealing your goods. Brilliant! All for less than a fiver, that's a Euro fiver. I've used it several times. Another advantage is that you can collect at your leisure and not worry about missing the postman. Troy Smith
I waited for this, as I was after all the components. Arrived today, a couple of points, and, yes, I did tell Airfix! Hello Airfix Just checking to see if this set was still due in June. I did mention before about the box art, having a post Battle of Britain propeller, with prop blade markings more usually seen on warbirds, and what looks like 20 mm ammunition being fed into a machine gun wing....Minor points I know. But, the starboard side of 32 sq Hurricane the codes read GZ-V, not V-GZ as shown on the test build and box art. This not shown in most of the famous 32 Sq photos, but is visible here I appreciate this may well not be the final artwork,or it's too late, but hope of use if not. Unfortunately too late, I'm not fussed about the box art, but the decals show codes reading V-GZ on starboard side, and as the codes are printed over the roundels, not just a case of swapping round the letters. Small point, and Hasegawa made the same mistake! That aside it's an excellent deal if you want all the kits. Also, check here for some period photos of Albion refueller and Hurricane http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234981865-hurricane-p3166-vy-q-85-squadron-july-1940-refuelling/ cheers T
Raven Morpheus
Where have you guys seen this kit? When I look on the Airfix.com website (UK version) there is no 1/48 Hurricane kit (although I'm sure there was one the other day) and this new kit isn't there either. The US site has a Hurricane Mk.I, kit #A04102 but it's not this new kit just a 2013 rebox. Edit - nevermind, I found it, it's called Battle of Britain Ready for Battle Gift Set, #A50172, found in the New for 2015 section, not where the other 1:48 kits are listed...
