The WNW Camel is coming!

They have safely made it through the Gulf Of Aden into the Red Sea, phew! I had a hit on my website from Somalia a couple of days ago (absolutely true, I get hits from all sorts of weird places so my targeted advertising is obviously needing adjusted) and I was convinced that I was being tracked by specialist Wingnut Wings Pirates!! Next stop for our Camels is Jeddah on the 2nd of March and then it's the run up through the Suez Canal and the length of the Med towards final destination.

Our Camels have berthed in Jeddah on schedule and as far as I'm aware that's the last portcall before they arrive in Germany on the 15th March. It is getting quite real now and I'm getting more excited as the days pass.

The Camels are now making their way through the Suez canal, which seems quite appropriate for ships of the desert.

I was under the impression that the entire stock of WnW kits were on that container ship however today I received an e mail from my Distributor that all the other WnW kits are being packed today for dispatch to me shortly. So a welcome surprise for me and good news for those who have pre-orders for the other WnW kits. I expect to have them in stock later next week and will commence sending out those pre-orders immediately. The kits received in stock will also go on general sale at that time so if anyone is interested in any of them keep an eye on the 'New Arrivals' section of the BlackMike Models website.

Yes I got the email from WNW today. My dilemma is which one do I get? But I can't understand why they haven't included decals for Captain James Bigglesworth who as we all know was one of the leading aces of the war.

I was hoping for markings for John Inglis Gilmour but no such luck. I find it depressing that, although Scotland produced 68 aces during World War One, with Gilmour being the top scorer at 39 confirmed, as far as I know none of them have been represented on a decal sheet :(

That sounds like a business opportunity for you. Honestly, you could approach some of the decal manufacturers with the artwork and see if they would produce the sheets for you.

I would love to Duncan but, although I know the names of a lot of the Scottish aces, I wouldn't even know where to begin the research to locate any existing details of their aircraft markings. The only one I know is John Inglis Gilmour's camel and that is only from a side view drawing in Norman Franks Sopwith Camel Aces book. I guess it would take a skilled researcher of such things to have any hope of success.

welllllll.........all the Scots I know are fiercely patriotic, and would love to see their countrymen represented. I KNOW all I have to do is mention to Johnny O'D up in New Hampshire that I have just made a Tripehound in a Scotsmans' markings and it will have a home in his house. Regards, Pete

Unfortunately, going through the list of Scottish aces, none of them (at least those who had scored the neccessary five victories for 'ace' rating) flew the Tripehound. Mainly camels, SE5a's, Spads, Nieuports, F.2b's, D.H.4's with even a Vickers Gunbus and Vickers Bullet thrown in. I spent some time the other day putting aircraft serials given in the Aerodrome's list of Scottish aces into Google in the hopes of turning up some pics but sadly no luck so far.

Talking of Scotsmen and their Camels, well sort of. Ours are now in the Med, next stop Rotterdam where they'll arrive on the 13th March and then be transported overland to the Distributor.

The rest of the currently available WnW range are on their way from the Distributor to me so I expect to have them by the end of this week, get your Credit Cards warmed up folks!

The Camels continue their cruise through the Med however the other WnW kits have arrived in stock and are now available for sale at BlackMike Models website. I only have limited numbers in this first batch but will be adding to the numbers as I can.

The Camels are now making their way through the Bay of Biscay towards the English Channel and will arrive in Rotterdam on Monday 13th. From there they travel to Hamburg arriving on the 15th. The Distributor will take delivery from there so I expect to receive my stock in the 3rd week of March as expected.

Draw a line from Eastbourne to Dieppe and our Camels are there heading NE. Not long to go now so Vice President Packaging is resting in a darkened room waiting for the madness, the parcel tape is cooling in the fridge and I'm wondering what to buy next!

that's close enough to me, watch the BBC news tomorrow morning, could be a headline 'Somali pirates in the English Channel nick loads of plastic kits'

....now where did I put my oars?

I have an old friend who is a channel pilot who takes ships into Rotterdam and Hamburg, not sure how this helps but I could ask him what ship is on at the moment.  :-)
