*** UPDATE ***

The hangars..... mostly finished and PE-parts added. The doors remain movable until I have decided if I would display it open or not....

The rear super structure was next step. Firstly the details of the kit removed... sanded.... and windows opened. Then all the PE-parts added.... several further details follow later after the painting ...

Thanks a lot.

For the PE work I use the super glue from "Modellbau König" .... their "home brand" :) Very good!

Ah interesting thanks, that's where I picked up my kit - arrived today! Still in awe at looking at the contents...looking forward to seeing the rest of the build.

I think that I will be ready with the next parts of the superstructure these days so that I could start the painting of the funnel and the rear super structure at the weekend :)

Okay guys, firstly I hope I'm in the right thread? Newbie here to this forum. I am just now starting on the Trumpeter 1/200 USS Missouri. I'm torn about getting the Pontos 23002F1 Add-On kit. Paid $330.00 USD for the Missouri and the pontos kit will be another $300.00 USD then a Plexiglass display case with base board will probably be another $250-300. Could someone tell me that has done a 1/200 Trumpeter ship and did not do the Pontos Add-On does the ship still look good without the Pontos kit? I have to justify the money expenditure to the wife!!

Michael, I would think the brass PE's should be painted, I've been aboard the Missouri in Hawaii and there are no brass parts like you show, the parts on the ship are painted. Please guide me in the right direction as I'm just starting on the Trumpeter #3705 1/200 Missouri and I'm torn to whether or not to purchase the Pontos #23002F1 Add-On kit for another $300.00 USD. Would the ship look good without the add on kit? I'm just beginning to paint the hull water-line.

Your guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Carl

Dear Carl,

I am shure that the Missouri without the Pontos set will look well too. It is a fine kit with lot of details and several brass parts included already. Alternative - MK1. Design or Eduard also have sets with different brass parts which are cheaper then the Pontos parts.

Specially Eduard has different sets for different parts of the ship as I know.... :)

Regarding the brass parts on my Bismarck.... of course they do not remain in this color.... the funnel and the rear superstructure - both are not painted yet.... paint will follow these days (see the superstructure at the front... this is painted ...) :)

Cheers

Hello Michael,

I have limited exposure to Photo Etched parts, it make since to install them then paint, please excuse my lack of experience here. I have done the USS New Jersey 1/350, the Missouri 1/350, the Enterprise Carrier 1/350 and the 1/350 Titanic. I never thought about what dust would do to a model until it ruined all but the Titanic which has a display case. Sadly, the other three were so damaged by the dust they went into the trash.

Do you have any guide lines for getting the water line painted on? Those 1/350 scale boats had lines on the hull for keeping the line straight this ship has a smooth hull. On the 350 scale ships I used masking tape to get my lines, however the stern on this ship is daunting. During the Viet Nam war I was assigned to a River Patrol Boat (Pibber) and was on one for 3 years, 11 months and 19 days . . . but hey who was counting? So long water lines are an issue, is masking tape the best utility for this step? Thanks for your time and your guidance if available.

This is what takes some of my time, my studio;

Hi Carl.

cool studio :)

Waterline.... tamiya tape for masking.... and a pen or marking the waterline.... put the ship on a straight floor... and put a pen on something which has the right hight for your waterline.... then mark the waterline on the ship...

Well - that was a great 30 minutes running through your WIP since I last checked-in on your work mid August. This is a stunning model you are producing - I wish I had the time to try it myself - this makes my old Airfix Bismarck seem very inferior

Keep up the great work
