Courageous
A good detailed build log with a concise list of paints, thanks. Stuart
Ratch
Cheers, I've been in the habit of logging the colours used on my builds for many years. If I need to touch up or if I was to build another I should be able to replicate the earlier build. Also, every so often, someone will ask "What colours should I use for *****"
Ratch
For this man I used the legs from the musketeer (01560), a 1/35 head and a sash from the Cavalier horseman. His right arm was replaced from spares. The feather plume was omitted and I scratched the pipe. Ratch
For the last musketeer I chose the firing pose and swapped arms with spares that did not wear gauntlets. Ratch
Finally, the Yellowcoat pikeman. I exchanged odd legs with a musketeer (01560). His left arm is part 17, holding the drinking bottle (21) whilst the right arm is part 14, holding the pike. Ratch
Some repairs to one of the pieces I took to Telford. This guy had lost his arm and sword and his rifle. Spares provided suitable replacements and I am now in the process of painting them.

Courageous
Now Mr Ratch, am I imaging it but is the sword hand 180 degrees out, as the grip and open hand is facing outwards? Stuart

Stuart Yes Stuart, its an odd pose, but I managed to get my arm into a similar position. I can imagine him twirling his sword in a circular motion above his head, ready to strike someone who is dismounted slightly behind him, slashing his sword down from a great height. Anyway, I finished him off today.

Ratch
Time for another 54mm conversion. Having built each of Airfix's 54mm range in each pose available, I now build conversions, researching possibilities and sourcing equipment and accoutrements from other figures in the range. This one is basically the Coldstream Guardsman. I've used legs from the French Line Infantryman and a bearskin from a French Grenadier. He will be a Grenadier of the 29th Worcestershire Regiment of Infantry.

Ratch
It's been a while since I did any of these I've just scrapped three, a Scots Grey, a Life Guard and a Polish Lancer. Many of the figure parts have gone into my spares boxes, but the horses are not in too bad condition and could be utilised. I have this spare Dragoon that will be paired with one of the horses. He will end up on his own horse, because of the furniture on the Life Guard's mount, and I need the head of the Lancer's. Of the new builds, here are the horses. This is the grey. I'll use this with the Lancer. The Lancer's kit was missing the horse's head, so I resorted to the old one. The Life Guard's nag will go under the dragoon.
Ratch
Here's the Dragoon on the old horse The Life Guard will have the Lancer's horse They rode blacks. The Lancer will have the Dragoon's horse I've airbrushed this as a chestnut. This horse has been airbrushed and brush painted as a grey for the RNBD.
Ratch
I have brushed Vallejo Game Color 73202 Pale Grey Wash over the horse to act as a filter. Metal foil (from a wine bottle) was used for the harness, cut to the pattern provided on the instruction sheet, fixed with cyanoacrylate, and then brush painted. Harness straps E and F were too short and needed extensions.

Ratch
In my experience, the best way to ensure that the stirrups are set to the correct length is to attach the foil strips to the foot supports, leaving them at an excessive length. After assembling the rider’s legs and putting the feet into the stirrups the required length can be cut, meeting under his groin area. On campaign the bearskin would be covered with an oilskin ‘waterproof’. In full dress, the bearskin was ornamented with a white plume and yellow cords. Some contemporary pictures show the plume worn on service. At the rear was a red cloth patch, bearing the prancing horse of Hanover; officer’s caps had a small silver badge of the Star of the Order of the Thistle in addition, below the patch. The jacket had dark blue facings with gold lace (yellow for the rank and file). Regulation horse furniture was carried, with the red cloak rolled across the front of the saddle, partly covered by a ‘waterdeck’. The valise bore ‘R.N.B.D.’, signifying the regiment’s title. A haversack and canteen were carried on campaign, in addition to the two shoulder-belts, one for the carbine, the other for the pouch. The sabretache was of plain black leather in all orders of dress, suspended from a white leather waist belt. All three regiments of Household Cavalry were present at waterloo, the two of Life Guards and the Royal Horse Guards. The helmet was introduced in 1814 and had a woollen crest. The Life Gard’s style of single-breasted jacket was dark blue. Troopers were armed with the 1796 pattern sabre. Sabretaches were carried by all ranks, though only officers used the ornate, laced version. I use foil, salvaged from wine bottles, for the harness. It is cut to the pattern supplied on the instruction sheet and fixed to the horse with cyanoacrylate adhesive before painting.

Ratch
Thanks very much @ERK The Dragoon's horse was cemented to the base before I added ground flock. I used PVA to secure my mixture of ground scatter, Javis Countryside Scenics JHG1 Static Grass Spring Mix, Woodland Scenics FS776 Light Green Prairie Grass, Army Painter BF4226 Wasteland Tuft, and some mixed herbs to the base. The Blues' shabraque was painted in stages; I do this inside out, from the lowest surface and each overlaying colour outwards. The horse was cemented to the base before I added ground flock. I used PVA to secure my mixture of ground scatter, Woodland Scenics FS779 Brown Tipped Prairie Grass, Army Painter BF4231 Meadow Flowers, and some mixed herbs to the base. The Lancer's charger was cemented to the base before I added ground flock. I used PVA to secure mixed herbs, my mixture of ground scatter, Javis Scenics JTUFT 9 Winter Grass Tufts 10mm and Javis Scenics JSTRIP 11 Flower to the base. Some furniture added and a bit more painting on this Trooper
