Ratch
This thread has been dormant for a long time Over on the ATF we are starting a Civil War Group Build and as I have three pikemen and five musketeers I thought it time I built them DSC_0003 by Richard Linnell, on Flickr The first two have taken a couple of hours each to assemble. The Pikeman kit was first issued in 1977. It is packaged in a Type 4 Collector’s Series Blister Pack. The sculpting is crisp and well defined, moulded in white plastic with 23 parts and two pose options. This first figure will be built as a Charles Gerard’s Bluecoat in the A pose. I omitted the feathers on the semi-cabasset but cut earflaps from the plastic sheet provided. This sheet was also used for the various straps and belts. DSC_0001 by Richard Linnell, on Flickr For this Earl of Essex Regiment pikeman I used the legs from the musketeer (01560), a 1/35 head and a sash from the Cavalier horseman. The right arm is from spares. DSC_0002 by Richard Linnell, on Flickr
Nikolay Polyakov
Very interesting little Airfix blisters here, Richard! 👍 Nice work on the pikemen, the figures looks very detailed and well-done.
Courageous
I used to love these Airfix 54mm figures when I was a boy but I could never fit the belts and webbing correctly to look right, so it'll interesting to see how these come out in the hands of an artisan. Ratch
Thanks guys, I think the Airfix 54mm are great kits 🥰 For what will be the yellowcoat I exchanged odd legs with a musketeer (01560). His left arm is part 17, holding the drinking bottle (21) whilst the right arm is part 14, holding the pike. DSC_0001 by Richard Linnell, on Flickr The musketeer kit was first issued in 1977 again in a Type 4 Collector’s Series Blister Pack. The sculpting is crisp and well defined, moulded in white plastic with 36 parts offering two pose options. I exchanged one leg with a pikeman to alter the stance slightly. Both arms were taken from the spares box. DSC_0003 by Richard Linnell, on Flickr I am pleased with this pose as it almost matches the illustration. This figure utilises both pikeman pose B arms (17 & 18) and the cabasset of a roundhead that I had previously (very roughly) sculpted a hideous face. DSC_0004 by Richard Linnell, on Flickr There is much more flash on these parts than the first two. Most parts need remedial action. For the sergeant I have used a pikeman’s head with a hat from spares. The arms are from the pikeman’s B pose (15 & 16). The sword is from the spares box and the halberd was scratchbuilt. Stuart Same here, in my childhood days, I built all of the Airfix 54mm figures, but I couldn’t get on with the plastic card for the straps and reins, I couldn’t get it to sit right. So I used paper instead. Most of my completed childhood models ended in the bin, but my mum kept the cavalry, displayed in her china cabinet. Ratch
I used to have trouble with the thin plastic too, and for a long time used foil (the sort you get on wine bottles). But this time I decided to use the plastic and it has worked well enough. The Greencoat was built in accordance with the instructions for the re-loading pose. I omitted the feathers from the hat. DSC_0001 by Richard Linnell, on Flickr I chose the firing pose for the Royalist redcoat, and swapped arms with spares that did not wear gauntlets. I also omitted the feathers from the hat. Ratch
Cheers Stuart. Normally I do a lot of the painting before finally assembling. As you can see, I've fully assembled these first. Fingers crossed for the painting on these

Ratch
Yes, I tend to think of Parliamentarions/Putitans in black and white - maybe this is influenced by Hollywood's depiction of them. More progress The Sergeant is practically done, a bit further to go on the other two. The pikemen are moving along too.
