RHAF aircraft profiles

Hi guys,

I've created a few more Spitfire profiles that show their operational scheme variety.

Spitfire Vc JK226. USAAF 308 Fighter Squadron, Tunisia, spring 1943. MS/DE/Azure Blue with MS spinner and White codes. The spinner is of a light color and most sources call for MS. Still carries IFF wire antenna on fuselage side.

RAF 32 Squadron, Canne aerodrome, Italy 1944. By this time, it's wearing standard Day Fighter pattern but undersides may still be in Azure Blue. Previous USAAF codes have been overpainted except the single "A" which is from a slightly different stencil. Gas detection(?) patch over spine is present. Let me know if that's something different. Spinner is Red. IFF rod under starboard wing. No hunting horn squadron emblem under windscreen yet.

Still with 32 Squadron but in Araxos, Greece this time, late '44. Wearing the same pattern as in Italy but with A*GZ codes and the hunting horn emblem clearly visible.

Finally, with RHAF in Elefsina, Greece, during 1946. Greek roundels and fin flash have been painted over the British ones while undersides and spinner are of a lighter color. Maybe, MSG and Sky respectively. A*GZ codes have been overpainted as well but hunting horn emblem remains.

Spitfire IXc EN254. RAF 81 Squadron, Tunisia, summer 1943. Standard Desert scheme with Red spinner.

JK52UYdh.jpg

RHAF, Tatoi aerodrome 1948. Wearing Day Fighter scheme with Greek roundels and fin flash. Battle damage patch visible on fuselage roundel edge. Spinner possibly Sky.

As always, comments welcome. Cheers!

Here here,.......these really need to appear in decal form,......I`d particularly love to build JK226 in its 32 Sqn and Greek markings.

Me too, I'd buy a sheet with some of these :)

There are several Greek Spitfires on LM Decals 48003 Spitfire Nk V RHAF. At the present I am waiting for another set by Kalfakis. Tigerhead has also published some Greek Spitfires. So if someone wants to build a Greek example, there are plenty of possibilities in 1:48. And definitely also in 1:72.

Hello John. It is a long while since I last logged into BM and it was only my IPMS club chairman's lead to your work that had me logging in again! (thank Ian Crawford :) ).

Thank you so much for sharing your work John - as someone who now only specialises in (in the main) all aircraft types belonging to or operated by the Hellenic Air Force and Swedish Air Force (Flygvapnet) and SAAB aircraft modelling, with a particular passion for HAF subjects, I find your work invaluable.

I am more active on FB these days than the modelling forums such as this, but I will become active again in the future. however, I have made friends with many Greek fellow modellers over the past few years, so I may be able to assist you with some of your queries?

Best regards and thank you

Derek
