F3D-2 in 1/48 announced

Recommended Posts

I just got my copy of the Squadron catalog for June, and to my great delight they are doing a limited edition (1000 copies) of what I suspect is from the old Czech Kit mould. Anyone know more about the release? I will be making mine in the same Korean War markings as the aircraft displayed at the Marine Air Museum at Miramar MCAS. I have been able to see inside on open cockpit day and it is a very roomy cockpit, full of ancient jet technology. The highlight is the "escape tunnel" for bailing out. This was not one of Hienaman's most pleasing designs, and could be considered a "Flying Dump Truck" in my opinion, yet the airplane is just so cool. Anyway, looking forward to the release and just wanted my Britmodeller mates to know about it ASAP.

Cheers

HI Randy

You are correct it the old Czech Model kit.

Editor's Note

Squadron/MMD has announced a limited reissue of their 1/48 F3D Skyknight kit which was previously released under a different Squadron brand - Czech Model.

Useful build notes and problem solving in the link as well.

Hopefully it bring down the secondhand price...well, long enough for me to get one cheapish ;)

Thanks Troy, the real thing is a beast and is proof that if you can put enough engines on it you can make a brick fly! Yeah, I got a heads up on the build, it is tricky but not as tricky as the Collectaire version. Just got to be patient with it I guess.

Maybe so but it did take a bit out of a few migs and was instrumental in keeping them away from the B-29 night missions

It is a beast of a build esp. those intakes BUT it is the only game in town...Dont expect to see anyone else tooling up this kit in 1/48!

On the 1/72 note...The Sword kit is rather nice and has some nice aftermarket resin and etched brass for it ( the only area of concern is the three piece canopy which could be tricky?/)

AND even decals if you dont fancy the kit ones:

It would be nice if someone did this treatment for the Squadron-Czech kit in 1/48?? IT could use a new interior?? Tommy Thomason may have something to say about that!?!
