(ex)Sgtrafman
Hi everyoneIt seems that for a while know I have been struggling to find any enthusiasm for my projects. My 1/48 new tool Airfix Mk 1 Spitfire has stalled due to a broken part, my new tool 1/48 Hurricane has also stalled (just lost interest), my JP has been put away for another day (lack of enthusiasm) and I have several GB's that I've joined (again no get up and go there either) so what to do? I have the 1/32 Tamiya Spitfire Mk XVI in my stash so I'm going to start her as my long term project. She will be build mainly OOB except for RB productions Sutton Harness, some fuse wire, some resin stuff I have floating around and after market decals / masks (not too sure which markings yet) so wish me luck as I make a start.CheersIain
S5 modeller
Good luck with it iain. I too have lots of stalled builds, life seems to get in the way of them. Currently mowing the lawn, my least favourite job, when I could be getting on with my builds. Hope you rediscover your mojo. Matt
heloman1
Something you've wanted to build for ages but never thought... Something that really takes your fancy but... Lack of mojo ain't that bad if you look at it logicly. Make a list tick a few thing off, add some make a decision. positive thinking... Bristolhibby
I find go for a quick win. An old small kit with limited detailing required. Used this one a while back to regain my mojo. J Edited May 17, 2015 by Bristolhibby
philtn
I usually try to bite myself through kits that are close to stalling. I lost interest in the Harrier I was sitting on, but it got more interesting the closer I got to the finish line because I wanted everything cleared out before starting my Hasegawa Warhawk. (Harrier took me 5 months and I didn't start new kits in between) I think if you give in to your lacking lust then the same will happen with builds that you "really look forward to" and I don't want that to happen. So only thing on my bench now is the Warhawk. But, I have to agree with Bristolhibby, it's important to make rewarding fast builds at times, that's why I chose the warhawk in 1/48. One weekend now and the cockpit is done, all parts prepared and ready for airbrushing. If I keep at it, I will finish it next week. You can have long-term 1/32 projects aside that, but I like to finish my smaller scale aircraft before going on Cheers, Edited May 17, 2015 by philtn
Darby
I'm doing old Matchbox kits re-boxed by Revell for a break from the norm. Basic models and a bit of old school hairy stick work on the 1/700 ships. No worries about airbrushes clogging or overspray etc etc.
PlaStix
Hi Iain. Sorry the mojo is lacking. A Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire eh? Sounds like my kind of project to follow!

Using all that stuff you'll end up getting bogged down again, losing interest, and grinding to another halt. Personally I'd stick it back in the stash and pull something out that is a nice simple build and don't use any AM whatsoever and just build it and get it painted. (ex)Sgtrafman
Hey everyone Thanks for everyone's pearls of wisdom, I don't know what I'm going to do yet, although I did make the Merlin and firewall for the Spitfire yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it.............................. laters Iain
tank152
Another idea is to build a nice simple kit along side you Spitfire, when you feel you're starting to get in a rut with it put it down and pick the simple one up and do that, that way you'll keep things moving. I did something similar whilst I was building my ZM Ta152H, I built a Airfix Bedford MWD along side it. Just another idea. Tim.

Biggles87
If you want something easy, or at least hassle free, any 1/48 Tamiya kit would do.
The Crusty one
Sorry to hear about the doldrums mate,I'm experiencing similar at the moment (building Eduard's spit mkIX and italeri mkIX)started off fine but due to a heavy workload, work on them slowed almost to nothing and now I'm struggling to build any enthusiasm to get on with them! I probably wouldn't be Starting a 1/32 Spit to rekindle the enthusiasm(even if I had one!😒) I'm just going to pull a 1/72 Airfix starter set out of the stash and slap it together, that usually fans the model making flame!! Good luck mate I'm rooting for ya!😊 Tim
(ex)Sgtrafman
Hi everyone I haven't spent much time in my workshop as of late but I have manged a little time today. After seeing some of the great builds of the Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire I've decided to do something outside my comfort zone and that is scratch building, now I haven't done much but I have made a start on the engine by adding the ignition harness to the engine... Any comments welcome. Cheers Iain
Kahunaminor
Nice start Iain, It is a lovely kit to build. Be aware the spark plug wires need to be kept close to the engine block at the top so they do not foul the exhaust mounts (Q1/Q2) at a later time. Resist the urge to add "just one more wire" to detail as before long you will find yourself trapped into Engine Obsessive Disorder (as I did)! Also be aware there are not a lot of builds of Mk XVIe engines on the web, most are Mk IXc and there are some minor differences between the two engines and their plumbing/wiring. Biggles87
That looks like a good start Iain, I'll be watching as usual. Cheers John

Regards, Hi ya Thanks for the heads up on parts Q1/Q2. I've been following your build over the past few weeks and enjoyed it immensely so I thought I'd give mine a go. I added some more plumbing last night and I plan to get the engine wrapped up later today. That looks like a good start Iain, I'll be watching as usual. (ex)Sgtrafman
Hi everyone Well what a fun few hours I've had (no really!) I've managed to add a little detail to the engine and its gone better than I could've hoped for (although the quality control bods at Rolls Royce may disagree!)... I think I've reached the point where enough is enough with respect to detailing the engine and now it needs priming and a coat of paint. I've still to make a start on the fire wall but I'm looking forward to it. Cheers Iain
PlaStix
Very impressive additional details Iain! They look rather excellent! I enjoyed detailing the engine for my build of Revell's Mk.XVI but that was in 1/48 and I didn't have the skills to detail it as well as you have done with this one. Looking forward to seeing more. Kind regards, Stix

Kind regards, Stix Hey StixIt's funny I didn't think I really enjoy adding the extra detail to the motor but I'm actually getting a real kick from it, it does help that the motor Tamiya give you is a work of art in itself and really doesn't need that much work . I've painted it Mr Hobby Dark Iron which is a metalizer paint and once I've buffed it up, added some different shades of silver and iron, some decals and a little weathering it should look presentable. Cheers mate Iain
Biggles87
So is this doing the trick Iain? I know what you mean about lack of enthusiasm. At the moment I am so itching to get started with my Battle of Britain GB Spitfire that I'm finding it difficult to get on with anything else. I also like the added detail to the engine, just enough to make it more interesting but not enough to become tedious. I'm sure you are also watching Kahunaminor's Mk XVI build, will you be adding wires etc to the bulkhead and engine mounts as he did? Enjoying your build. Cheers John

Cheers John Hi John Yep it was Kahunaminor's build that kick started me into building this and yes I'll be adding the plumbing to the bulkhead and engine mounts, its surprisingly good fun. Tonight's progress I painted the engine block Mr Metal Color Dark Iron 214 and the magnetos Aluminium 218 and Copper 215 then gently buffed it to give a nice worn look. I've elected to add very little colour to the engine block itself as I feel that during the war cables / pipes etc would be predominantly black and the motor would be quite dirty and oily? Not the multitude of colours that are found on restored aircraft now... That's all folks Iain
Kahunaminor
That looks very good Iain, Your colour reasoning is solid for a wartime aircraft IMHO. Honoured to think my build inspired you to start, thanks for that. I look forward to seeing more. Regards,

(ex)Sgtrafman
Hi everyone I've managed a little progress with my Spitfire. I've drilled out the holes for the zues fasteners on the engine bearers, added the filler cap to the engine cooling tank, painted the ignition harness dull silver and added a little plumbing to the firewall... That's all folks Iain
