Resistance is futile...

Good morning Enzo

Yes I know that , I dream of a sub section of Brittmodeller reserved for the Mustang where the Mustang fans could post their builds do you think that it would be possible ?

Good evening

Well I have plenty of Mustangs boxes in my stash

P 51 A/B/C by Academy and  P 51 B by Kp

P 51 D by Airfix and Tamiya and F51D

I will try to build one of each and I will probably start when I will have completed my currents builds (but I am not sure that I will be able to resist ..) .

Rule No 9 No stangs

The host with the most has spoken!  Does anyone call them 'canes and 'fires?  Sorry, just being a bit playful, but honestly that way of referring to them makes my skin crawl.

Two days before cleared for takeoff- and I must have made a mental typo, because I've been fondling a Monogram P-61 of late...

Funny, there was the Meteor group build just about the time Airfix announced an upcoming kit.  Now the Mustang GB is ready to kick off, and...

p.s. Official start is tomorrow, and I'm still thinking P-61 and dithering about what Mustang I want to work on!

That's simple.  Build every Mustang and a P-61 as well. :analintruder:

Letting loose my stampede of wild horses with a question.

As well as my Airfix build, I've got a Monogram F-82 Twin Mustang out of my stash.  Should I start another thread??

I don't want to false start again.

Well done to Airfix for announcing their 1/48 kit offering, let's show them we appreciate that news.

Hi Gang,

I wanted to join with a racing Mustang but limited time for another conversion (Red Baron or Foxy Lady with open engine bay) made me stumble about this idea and the announcement of three new tool Mustangs in 1:48 next year made me fall over finally. The unstarted Tamiya kit in shash will be sold on and nut cut up.

So I wonder if I should enter a Tamiya Mustang I started and shelved long ago because I got bored over the sanding of the wings to get that bl***dy resin wheel well fitted. The cockpit is done and the fuselage closed so I fear it is close to the 25% rule from either direction:

If I am allowed to enter this here I will take her with me on a business trip the next two weeks and rivet the fuselage for the NMF finish. No push - it will be no problem, if you say it is above the 25%.

I don't have a problem with it, as you say it's very close to the 25% rule but by the sounds of it there will still be quite a lot of work required, especially with the riveting!.

I'll let Les have the final say.

Very Very tempted with this one.

Have two mustangs that I know of in the stash, one is the Academy P-51D which just has the wing built up, and the other is the Tamitaleri (tamiya/italeri) P-51D "Korean War" version.

Can probably get away with using the decals from the Tamiya kits on the Academy one though so should be interesting.

How bad is the orange peel?

If you can feel it then its a case of stripping the paint

If it only shows with low angle glancing light Klear may help. It self-levels, so a few brushed on coats will start to even out the surface. As Klear is very thin it may take several coats until this happens.

I have a Zoukei-Mura P-51 that I'd like to build for this Group Build, but I wonder if anyone can help me out before I start.

I'd like very much to have the Kagero decals for Capt. Leroy Grosshuesch's P-51 "Little Girl" in 1/32 scale. They were published by Kagero in Fighters Over Japan Part II, which is out of print and will apparently remain so, according to Kagero. Does anyone have them? I'd be very pleased to buy or trade for them. Thanks.

If not, I'll do another scheme.

Some mustangy questions - if I'm building it wheels-down

A) would you expect a taxiing mustang to be displayed flaps up or flaps down ?

B  ) would you expect the rear exhaust of that air-scoopy thing on the underside to be open or shut ?  (aka part 22A to those of you with the Airfix 1/72 kit)

As I understand it... Taxying (indeed very shortly after engine start) flaps would be up, as they only drooped when hydraulic pressure bled off after engine shutdown. They were only used for landing, so once the a/c was on the deck, the pilot would select Flaps Up and there the lever would stay until next touchdown; once the engine was started again, the flaps came up of their own accord (ditto the inner landing gear doors). Radiator flap would be open(ish) depending on ambient air temperature - generally, WW2 fighters are a bit short of cooling ability while on the ground, and even modern incarnations have limited ground idle/taxy times. That said, I just had a bit of a browse on Google and there's photos there of operational P-51s in Korea taking off with the outlet flap fully closed. Same story with warbirds. <shrug> You pays your money I guess.

5th photo down would appear to be taxying in Korea, no sign of open flap, very bottom photo is a warbird doing a low pass, flap open... It's possible that the Korea photo was shot in the winter - it did get a little chilly there from all accounts.

And here's one on the ground, flap open

As always, I profess no deep knowledge, and am prepared to be corrected!

Hi Les,

I am on my trip in China right now and riveted the starbord side and glued in the resin u/c well by now. Can I enter my build in this GB or should I better post it in the usual WIP section? No pressure - just to make sure ;-)

Cheers,

Rene
