Hockeyboy76
Looking at Nimrods 1/144 Phantom with envious eyes!! Have just ordered a LS models 1/144 Phantom from evilbay. Under no illusions that it will be anywhere as near a good kit as the Whirlybird one but do have a plan on how to make something unique from it. Oh dear that will be three Phantoms in this GB by me. Sorry. So its arrived & its not as bad as I had first feared. Undecided on whether to stick with my original plan or build & complete an inflight minus crew. Anyway box shots Helpfully the instructions are printed on the inside of the box lid. Edited May 24, 2015 by Hockeyboy76

nimrod54
Little help please does anyone know the humbrol equivalents of these Gunze colours H304 Olive drab H306 Light grey. My ageing Humbrol colour/conversion chart lists H304 as 155 and H307 as 128. HTH Edited 9 Apr 2015 Just re-checked my paint chart and your original post asked for H306 and I have given the match for H307. Just for reference H306 is 126. Hockeyboy76
Cheers John, Think I have them in the draw, or on the desk!
Air-to-Air
If you've got an iPhone grab the iModelKit App (try the free version to begin with). It has a catalogue of the paints of quite a number of major manufacturers. One of the useful things that it does is provide options from other manufacturers that are "close to" the paint code you have looked up.
Hockeyboy76
I was right. I do have those paints & on the bench too, almost like I knew I wanted them. Painting has started. Pics to follow. You never know who's looking over your shoulder!!!
Hockeyboy76
Having decided to do something completely different with this "build" here's the progress so far. Painting on the sprue. Looking at Johns (Nimrod) fabulous 1/144 ejector seats, I have decided that the ones supplied here (number 11 & 12) on the sprue will not do. Off to raid the spares box.
Hockeyboy76
Apologies for not many photo updates, or progress on my builds. Having to fit this in around taking the wife for Radiotherapy. Hope to put some more up tonight. The cammo has been painted & found some spare ejector seats, so doing a Cookie & taking notes from Johns seats.

nimrod54
That's looking great bud as is the very neat work on the re-shaped tail in your wrap around camo job.
Hockeyboy76
That's looking great bud as is the very neat work on the re-shaped tail in your wrap around camo job. Cheers John. The decals take ages to release from the backing paper & are also quite thick, even so I managed to rip 2 of them.
Hockeyboy76
These decals are just awful. Most of the ones I have used so far have ripped. Need to raid the spares for a new red stripe. Even using Micro sol & set solutions they refuse to bed down into the recesses. When it's finished & displayed it will look better.

Hockeyboy76
So seeing how good Johns 1/144 seats were I had to have a go myself. Belts made with Tamiya tape & handles from wire. Here is the "Phinished build" I painted & then left attached to sprues & then mounted in a deep picture frame. Hope you enjoy.

nimrod54
Brilliant, just brilliant. The seats look great and a novel solution on the presentation, I just wasn't expecting that at all.
Hockeyboy76
Phanks for the kind comments guys. I have made a few this way now, mainly as presents. I did make a 1/144 LS Tomcat like this & entered it in a model show. Lost points because it wasn't built!!!!
