Col.
Have a few projects in mind that will require a few figures of Royal Navy aircraft carrier deck crew from the late 40s and early 50s in them. All the photos I've found so far are in black and white so I'm wondering what colours their uniforms would have been. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Shar2
Depends on theatre. European, Atlantic and Arctic they would be in dark blue overalls, with the option of dark blue overcoats, normal hats or beenie type woolen cap. In the far east they'd be down to wearing just shorts. http://ww2today.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/HMS-Victorious-deck-crew.jpg http://www.awm.gov.au/collection/019032/ The uniforms didn't change much for quite a few years after the war.
Col.
Thank you Dave. The first link is great and gives me plenty useful detail to go with on the different articles of clothing available. The second is to one I'm using for inspiration on a current project but is a clearer copy. My plan is to show deck hands folding the wing of a Seafire XVII in a similar pose to that shown.
