MarkdipXV711
Top man; thanks. Mine will probably be a SAR cab; I have acquired a rather funky 1/48 Houchin, so I can build it with everything ready to go, switches cocked, ground power in, just remove the tip socks, flash up and taxi! Thinking of building a folded 820 HAS5 first, in the deep blue colour they were when I went front line. Probably the one I ditched in 88. I want to detail the SAR cab, but plan to build the Pinger with rear door shut, blades folded, forth road bridge and TR gust lock; basically as it was when I clambered in to do the checks in Fly1 as a sprog P2... That way I'll learn some of the pitfalls of the kit (I have 2) before opening up the later one as a Gannet SAR ..looming forward to these, I'm sure I have some 1:48 scale 820 badges and serial numbers. Will keep them safe meantime

MarkdipXV711
XV711 is finished and is now being returned to the hanger for maintenance . I had a mishap at the final stage, whereby I stupidly forgot the cardinal rule of " don't touch the canopy with messy fingers". Unbeknown to me, I had a small amount of glue on my hand, from the application handle and I got some on the stbd lower glazed section and airframe. No amount of sanding and polishing can remove it so I guess I will have to make efforts to track down a replacement part. ... sums it up really !! Anyway.. here are some pictures of what I have done. I carried on and finished off so that at least it looks the part. The only parts I have not fitted are the window wipers and rear view mirrors. I will also have to reapply a couple of the small decals showing the ground power access ports on the stbd side. Luckily I have spare ones of these. No point in doing this until I source part R12. A huge thanks to all who have chipped in with this thread.. it's been enjoyable and your assistance has been invaluable. ... check out that finger smudge .... aaarrrggghhhh !!!!! Mark 6 scratch built interior came out well ... as did the aircrewman, doing his winch check. It has been a fabulous kit and the only fitting issue I had was with the cockpit clear glazing, it required a bit more trimming than I thought in order to make a seamless and correct fit. Making it flush at one end, caused it to flex and bulge at the other. If I manage to source a replacement part, at least I will know what to do. Almost forgot a shot of the underside ... and I also have to fit the yellow VHF homing aerials to the underside of the front avionics bay. This will be the last thing to do. Anyone who has a spare cockpit glazing part ( number R12 and/or part R18) please get in touch or even if someone can supply the best contact details for replacement Hasegawa parts, again please get in touch. All the best .. cheers Edited June 22, 2015 by MarkdipXV711

moaning dolphin
Excellent modelling, it is looking mighty fine indeed. I particularly like the crewman in the back doing his winch check. (As long as he doesnt run the cable under his stinking, dirty size 9 boot and grind **** into the wire! - don't know why they did that!). Don't worry about the glue on the window, I am sure the real things were prone to a bit of crazing (just maybe not on that scale!). A quality build and thanks for sharing. Cheers now Bob
Ex-FAAWAFU
Lovely model, from which I intend shamelessly to steal many ideas when I pluck up the courage to build a Sea King. But who's the poser in the back? No despatcher, not strapped in, gagging for the Brownie runs as we taxi past...

MarkdipXV711
Very nice, been an enjoyable build to follow, lots of good tips and good stories. What's next? .. as you might guess, I'm a helicopter fan.. I do have a Hasegawa SH-60B Seahawk sitting about, it's only 1:72 scale but quite fancy giving it a go. Holidays looming so it may be a while. In the meantime, awaiting a response from amerang-group.com regarding sourcing a replacement cockpit glazing

Many thanks, appreciated ... just awaiting a reply from amerang and if I get a replacement canopy, I will be content. MarkdipXV711
Hi, No luck from Amarang with regards a replacement canopy, despite them checking their spare parts stash. Anyone out there have a spare or replacement canopy ?? This request has also been posted on the "Wanted" forum ..... if anyone has any other ideas of where I can source one ??, apart from buying another kit that is !!
MarkdipXV711
Got my mojo back for this ... other members suggested that I had nothing to loose so just try and sand and polish out the thumb print. After I couldn't source a replacement, I took the plunge and spent a good hour sanding away with the wife's ( honest) 4 in 1 nail sanding block thingy. It worked, the mark has been removed, so my build is back on track. I'm going to spend the evening re masking and spraying the canopy surround, then I'm going to dip the canopy. When it is time to refit the canopy, I will just use some PVA glue and lightly tack it in place, or just dry fit it. To say I was gutted when I made the thumb print error was an understatement ... but hopefully will push on, finish the canopy, fit the pitot tubes and rear mirrors and present the finished article in the RFI section.
perdu
I'm glad you did that Those 4 in 1 nail pads are a fabulous resource, I get mine 4 at a time from my local 99 pence world They last quite a while and work really well Looking forwards to seeing the revised window soon

I've taken some pictures of the fixed canopy. It is now sprayed, sealed and drying after a "klear" bath. It's so shiny .. going to leave it to dry overnight and I'll hopefully gloat in self satisfaction tomorrow !! Can't believe how this all worked out but as others said, I had nothing to loose. perdu
PVA ought to be OK to fix it, I use Formula 560 Canopy glue and it sets beautifully clear if you use it 'sparingly'

Mask off the area and after carefully marking out the area, just cut but take your time and saw a little bit at a time. I also used a sharp blade the basically scribe the flimsiest plastic.Finished model here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234986521-royal-navy-148-sea-king-has-6-819-squadron-circa-1996-xv711-navy-709/ Edited October 18, 2015 by MarkdipXV711
