Grayson
First WIP. You'll have to bear with me as this WIP won't get daily updates due to the intrusion of life into my hobby. So, as I can, I will keep this up to date. My plan is to build the Tamiya 'FAMO' Sd.Kfz. 9 18 tonne Prime Mover coupled to a Flak 88 during the final days of the collapse of Aachen. Given such a scenario, it's likely that our FAMO has seen its fair share of wear and tear and it is my intent to make it look like it's had a hard life. With that in mind, I am pre-painting the body in a steel like patina prior to any further work so that as I build up colour, washes and tints, they will ultimately have this finish beneath them. Hope that makes sense when all the chipping and scuffing starts. The base silver - no, I won't prime for this - is Halfords brake caliper silver. I use this as it primes as it goes, is pigment dense ensuring good coverage and is very bright as a silver. The spatter/speckle coat is Plastikote satin black sprayed from about 24 - 30 inches away so the black dusts over the silver. Front quarter over the bonnet. Nearside wing. Nearside. Bonnet close up. So, that's it for now. I will post more as I go along.
Grayson
Had a chance to do a bit of work on the chassis today. Not quite sure how far I will go with this. Probably start the cab work and see where the mood takes me.

Grayson
Thanks for the comments. This is actually only my third ever armour build. I normally build stuff with wings. I got some work done today and I'll post more images tomorrow with luck.
Grayson
Did a bit of work today on heavily chipping the crew cab and cargo deck. Still a long way to go. Scratch built the compressor and regulator valve on the firewall to drive the air system on the FAMO. still a lot of upper cab work to do and then onto the underneath of the cab. May add throttle linkages into the engine bay and have built the pipework up for the radiator hoses. Not sure if I will add clutch linkage, additional lines for the carburettor and wiring for the rear lights. Feedback always welcome.
JimHead23
That's a very effective method of chipping judging by the result you have achieved.
Grayson
Thanks Jim, it surprised me with the finish. I can't take the credit as I got it from Andy's AT-ST build. I used Maskol applied with a sponge, painted the desert yellow over the top and then rubbed the Maskol off with a stiff toothbrush. Further chipping, washes and tints should give a nice finish I think. As i've already said, I don't normally build armour so this is a bit of an experiment for me.
JimHead23
Ah yes I have seen this before. It's worked a treat!
Grayson
Haven't had a huge amount of time to work on this, but did manage to get started on weathering the chassis and wheels. Any advice is welcome, and criticism also and please remember that you can't upset me with your comments as it all goes in for rumination and cogitation with a view to producing better models in future. Thought, comments and criticisms are more than welcome.

Grayson
The minging continues... Too much? It's starting to turn into the Millenium Falcon of wehrmacht halftracks I think.
JimHead23
Looks right to me. If you had described how much you were going to chip it before you did it I might say you were going to far but it looks perfect.
Kevdan
That is just amazing, I wish I could weather stuff like that, most of my kits have to be in parade order as when I try to weather it just goes pearshaped. Looking forward to seeing this progress.

bentwaters81tfw
That looks as though it has been abandoned in the desert for many years.

HL-10
That is coming on nicely! I think your paint chipping/scrape effects are just awesome! Looks really battered, just the way they got in the desert.
